Shooting off fireworks a day early scaring the crud out of the horses, the cats and the dog.
It's bad enough to have to endure in on the 4th but doing it tonight- my cats are in an uproar and my horses in a sweat from running the pasture. I fail to understand why if there is a county wide burn ban till the end of Septemeber that they even allow fireworks in the first place?

ok rant over, hate this holiday-

That's exactly what are neighbors are doing doing here, and I can't even beleive they allow them here it's drier then dry, yesterday the hill behind our home was on fire, I know when I used to have horses they hated it, My basset is in the bathroom hiding, cats are scared also.

Our town allows them on the beach only from several days before until several days after the 4th. The tideflats of the bay are also considered "the beach," so my house is only about 70 feet from a permitted area.

Yes, the fireworks are going off. What I found most interesting, though, is the total contrast between the way my cats behaved when it started. I had just fed them their "bedtime snack" before it started. Red Cat ran and hid in the furnace room. Sheba jumped up on a box and tried to see what was going on. But Purdy just looked up, then went right back to eating! Not much phases Purdy, unless he hears what he believes is a stranger coming. Then, like Red Cat, he'll run and hide, too.

My little monster slept through the whole fireworks show-hard to believe. I'm sure she'll have some kind of spastic episode while i'm trying to sleep tonight.

My family and I are some of the idiots that started shooting off fireworks Friday night
but we don't live near any horses, cows, etc. If we did I definitely wouldn't use fireworks at all. It's fun getting together with family and having some fun but not at a cost to any animals. Sorry to hear of the confusion and fear some of your animals are experiencing

Oh do I hear you!
MV banned them all except for all day and to 11 pm July 4. But when we got home with Sandy from Whidbey Island this evening, it was like a war zone.
I'm glad I got Sasha and Saba inside before we left. Knowing from experience here that nothing is ever enforced. Tonight, Sasha is under the bed, and Sandy is so pooped from the beach she's ok in her crate with the country western radio station on, and little Saba - well Saba is just unimpressed with any of it and is just fine, thank God.

MA I sure do feel for you - you have such a menagerie and the ranch otuside....so much responsibility for your horses and pups, to boot.

I think that's whats saving me right now. Charlie aka "Stink" is at wits end 24/7 trying to get out of the house and into the hills so the fireworks are kind of secondary to her.

I never will understand why fireworks are allowed at all, except for public displays, well controlled. Fortunately, we don't get people setting off fireworks privately around July1. But we sure do around Hallowe'en, and it's a nightmare for days. I feel for you and all your critters, MA. Hope the ruckus doesn't go on too long.

Yeah, they've been shooting them off for days. Here it continues on and off throughout the summer. I love "official" fireworks, but the crap they shoot off around here just make a loud noise without the "ooh/aah" factor.

Fortunately for my girl Abbie, she's deaf as a doornail. Unfortunately my feral boy, Beau, is not loving it. He's been doing so well, and was actually starting to reach out a paw and almost touch me. Today he took a huge swipe at me when I was putting down food, and got me good (first time ever!), and he's been hissing at me, which he never does. The four feral kittens are climbing the screen door again...a habit which had been broken. They're also fighting each other...alot! Sigh.

I'm looking around, and something looks familiar...I've been here before...oh, I remember...IT'S FREAKIN' SQUARE ONE!

That is the reason I am glad they are completely illegal here unless done by the city in one of our big parks! I quite enjoyed the fireworks on Friday night (Canada Day) down in the park and was more than happy to call the police when someone started lighting them behind my house

We don't have them here (except for the US Embassy party in July and the British Embassy in November) for which I am profoundly grateful. I used to hate it in London. When I go to France we will be far enough away from a village for it not to matter on JUly 14th, and the French never have home ones. Not that there are any kids in any of the 6 houses that make up our tiny hamlet.

I absolutely echo your sentiments, and had even considered starting a similar thread on this issue! What is it with these people!
What is so entertaining about going out and making so much racket! People all over the neighborhood are already shooting those stupid things off! Most fireworks are also illegal here in NC with the exception of a few sparkly things and simple little items, but people simply go over the state line into South Carolina and purchase all they'd like. Why?

I want to be clear that I honor the meaning behind this day, I just don't understand these numpties' ridiculous method of celebrating!

For work tomorrow, and long ago put in my request that I must not work past 7pm because it is imperative that I make it home in time to be here with my babies before all that horrible noise starts.
As we've done tonight, we will have on soft music, fans, and our ocean sound machine.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I hate fireworks with a passion
Ours is always the 5th of November for Guy Fawkes night, but they always set them off weeks before and a couple of weeks after.

Thankfully the goverment is clamping down on shops selling them to anyone

MA, you swore!!

I hear ya MA. Jerry and I spent the better part of last night trying to calm the kits down because people all over the neighborhood were setting off thier own little personal displays............and tonight is the big show in Garfield. My poor babies.........Tiggy, who doesn't seem to be afraid of anything is our biggest chicken. He won't come out of hiding in the basement till the last one is done.......my girls don't really run, but they jump sky high!
