My cat scratched herself a couple of times and the area is now scabbing. Is it safe to use hydrogen peroxide on cats? I would like to clean the wounds. Thanks for your help.

It is safe, but there are better things to use... even on humans, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol are damaging to the cells on the wound that are trying to regrow and heal.

this website has a first aid kit for cats and it lists some of the various things you can use to clean a wound.

thanks for providing that link mferr84. I'm going to go about setting up one of those kits, and will probably have to make one for my dog too since he's gotten into so much touble in the past year (is it normal for dogs, or even people, to be fine for 6 years and suddenly develop a case of accident-proneness? lol)

Betadine is excellent but in a pinch, hydrogen peroxide can be used to clean a wound followed up by a triple antibiotic ointment.  Personally I would use a saline solution to clean the area and then apply the topical ointment.  The peroxide is not that great for healthy skin tissue.

I don't think so. They have stopped using it in almost every hospital because the found it causes cancer.

Betadine is better.

In what way have they stopped using it?  Hydrogen peroxide has been used as a cancer treatment for a long time.  I can't find any info to say otherwise, but I may be missing something.
