I have a new 2 1/2 year old full blooded persian cat that has only been with me for two days. She was owned by another couple who said she was sweet, loving, and playful. They had to get rid of her because of allergies. I understand it may take some time to get use to her new family and I'm up for that. My question is she growls when you walk pass her, talk to her, and sometimes when you pet her. Is she mad because she has moved? Her main caretaker was a male, and I thought maybe since I'm female she may not like me. I have been trying to talk to her and give her space do you think since she is an adlut she will stay this way?

It can take up to a few months for a cat to adjust to such a large change. I would just keep doing what you are. You need to let her find her place on her own terms. Just talk to her and lay treats down so she see's that you have left them for her. In time, she will probably let you get much closer and feel more at ease. You can see if she likes baby food (make sure it doesnt have onion powder) and try giving it to her on a spoon or on your finger. It is hard to say unless you really know the person how this cat was treated. It can take time and patients on your part, but they usually come around once they gain trust and feel as if they are "home".

to Sandie's wisdom.
When you interact with the new kitty, try not a look her full in the face (kitties perceive this as threatening) Look off to the side, or whatever, but steer clear of her eyes. Give her a sweaty shirt of yours to sleep on so she will adjust to your scent quicker, or put the shirt under her feed bowl. Good luck!
