Oreo has been with us since May 5, 1989. As of this moment, my mother is walking in the room to tell the vet to put my sweet childhood kitty to sleep. She's very upset and she called me about an hour ago to tell me they took him in this morning for an ear infection, and they gased him to clean his ear. He had a difficult time coming out and when they took him home, he had been breathing very hard. She called me about 20 minutes ago, and she said that he either had a stroke or has cancer. The vet told her that for him being 16, the prognosis isn't good. We talked about it together and decided we have 16 wonderful years together with him and we will always remember those years. I am out of town, and I probably wouldn't get home in time to say goodbye
I told her that it was best to let him go because he is crying right now and is in a lot of pain. She said she would give him and big hug and kiss for me. This hurts very much, please say a little prayer for Oreo, will you?
May he cross the bridge safely and look back at us with those kitten eyes and know that we will always love him.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

It is a very hard decision to let go of a cat (or any animal) that has shared so many years with us. My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. Bless Oreo...he is now at peace without pain.

I'm so sorry - It was unexpected, too and that makes it extra sad. My thoughts and prayers are with you

Thanks you guys. I'll post a pic of him when we get our website pictures back up. My mom called about 30 minutes after I posted this...and left me a message that is was over. She said they (her and my stepfather) and the vet and assistant went in the room, calmed him down by petting him. My mom gave him one last kiss from me, and they put him to sleep. She said there was no way he would have made it through the night, so I told her not to wait for me to get home. I just hate it that I couldn't be there with her. But, the weird thing is...I had to go out to their house about 4 times last week to feed him and play with him while they were on their cruise. I sat down with him on the couch and just petted him and he purred for hours it seemed like. I knew in my heart that something was wrong with him just by the way he was acting...I guess we just have that intuitation when we know that time is coming, but don't really want to admit to it. It just makes it really hard to not be able to let it all out yet, since I here at my in-laws this weekend...I just don't think they understand how important Oreo was to me and my mother. Well, it doesn't matter...I guess I'll just go to bed now.

I'm so sorry. You know, sometimes I think it is a blessing in disguise that you cannot be there. It's sometimes better to remember them as they were, you know? Take care.

so sorry to hear of your loss, but it sounds like your parents made the right decision, and not let him suffer. It is such a hard decision to make. At least you got to spend some time with him last week, and you have lots of good memories to remember him by. Take care

RIP Oreo

It is so good that you were able to see him so much last week. Some things are meant to be, like that. He knew he was loved al his life and especially at the end. RIP Oreo.

Oh Candie
Please know that I sit here and cry for Oreo. I know just how much you loved him. You and your Mom had a hard choice but you both know in your hearts it was the right thing to do. I am lighting a candle for Oreo to guide him on his way to the bridge.

Thank you all for your kind words and sympathy. As the days, weeks and months pass, I know it'll get better. I ran across this picture of him that I had saved in My Pictures! We actually did a caption on here for him about a year or so ago.

This pic I believe was taken in 2001 or 2002. Sorry bout the eyes...he loved sleeping in those Avon boxes the most!

Love you sweet Oreo
