Mr. Ruffles is a little over a year old. For the first 6 months or so that we had him, he would only drink out of the toilet. Then he started using his water bowl regularly. Now, out of the blue, he has started tipping over the water bowl every time we fill it up. I thought that it started after we took a short vacation. So I attributed it to his being mad at us. But my husband says that it started a week or so before that.

Has anyone else had this problem. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix it?

Thanks.

I have one fellow who did that regularly, I believe it was a play thing. He loved seeing the water rollover the floor, I didn't really find a fix for it but he finally got tired of doing it and moved on to picking on my plant.

One of ours does that on occasion ... I don't THINK it's on purpose, but it could be.

Anyway, probably the best solution is to buy a bowl that won't tip over easily. It'd definitely be easier than winning a war of wills with a cat.

Yup, what evnshawn says. A wide, heavy ceramic bowl. A wide stainlees steel bowl with non-skid bottom. Best idea of all: a pet fountain.

My MIL had this problem, she bought a dishtub, and a brick, now her water sports kitties can play in the water, without spilling it

YES!! Our Sunny did the same thing...that is, until we bought (strong) velcro that adhered to things. We adhered one side of the velcro to half of the underside of the bowl (cutting and placing it so it went with the curve of the bowl), and the other side matching to the floor. We moved about two months ago from the place she started doing this in, and haven't yet replaced the velcro...but she hasn't done it! I think Sunny must think the velcro's still there! LOL!!

Another thought...we tried finding a bowl that she couldn't tip over, but she then started scooting it around on the floor and figured out a way to tip that one, too...smart little booger!!

I use a ceramic bowl so my cats can't tip it over but..

One of my cats whom I shall not embarass by exposing his "dirty laundry" (it's the little orange cat below..) likes to dip his paw into the water bowl over and over. Sometimes he will just kick the water out (apparently for fun) but other times he slowly dips his paw in and licks the droplets off the tip of his paw. Strange behavior but very cute nonetheless.

That's too funny...our Hobbes does the same thing. I used to wonder when he would jump into my lap, and he had soggy paws, until I spied him doing the very same thing! CUTE!!

Summer did this quite a bit when we first got her. I believe it was unintentional because she likes to lean over a bowl and lap up the water with her tongue hitting the wall of the bowl while doing so. My mom gave me one of our dogs' extra no-tip bowl. They can be found at most pet stores.
