Hey guys! I'm new here, and have a strange problem with my VERY intelligent cat that I've never heard of, nor dealt with.

Our little female cat, Sunny, has the ability to open doors. Yes, folks, I said open doors.

The other morning, when waking my 5 yr old daughter, she mentioned that the cats had gotten into her room that night and woke her up...and to this my husband and I just looked at one another and assumed she'd been dreaming (as she most times tells us off-the-wall things like that...and we just chalk it up to dreaming). So, we both just shrugged it off, telling her, "ok, Hunny...we'll tell them to knock it off".

Well, last night I actually watched Sunny do her stuff...by standing on her hind legs, stretching up, putting her paws on the handle, and using her pawpads' friction on the doorknob and her weight to turn it and thereby open the door. We haven't experienced her doing this to our door, so the opening is something she only desires to do to our daughter's door...which is a problem!

Have any of you guys experienced this? It's really important that they not wake our daughter, as she's VERY hard to get to sleep at night, and it would disturb the whole house if our kitties kept waking her up...not to mention that she won't be getting enough sleep for school.

ANY IDEAS??? HELP!!!

Having had a door opener myself, my solution was to buy some of those child proof doorknob covers.

I have a door opening too. However he do not open bedrooms doors, he opens cupboards doors and drawers which required pulling instead of pushing. My kitchen cabinets doors are often left open for no reasons.

My cat Isabelle does this too! She opens every closet door and lets all the other cats in, and they have a party in the closet...lol....Isabelle also opens cabinets. The door thing was really a problem for a while cause she would open the bed room door, but i fixed my door so there is no way she can open it now, she still opens all the closet doors though.

They work. Chucky's mom was also a door opener too. She had big double paws and she was able to cup the knob just right and poof open hehehe it was to my sons room when he was a baby .

If opening doors is a problem, I'd go with the child-proof knobs to stop Sunny's behavior.

But beware -- Not only can Nano open doors, she has also mastered the task of closing doors. So if you have a clever and/or highly adaptive cat, don't be shocked when they pick up certain tricks by imitating their humans. Start planning ahead because this cat will probably continue to surprise you.

Doesn't your feline play with them, seen as how they just go around and around?? I just don't want her doing that and waking our daughter for a whole NEW reason, ya know? LOL...)

I won't be surprised in the LEAST to see her constantly surprising me...she's one sharp kitty!! She's so much fun...she convinces her brother to get into trouble (he's the opposite of her in the intelligence catagory!!), and then runs across the room when she hears us coming and starts bathing like she's been there for a while...and looks at us like, "I don't know what he's doing, but I'm bathing". LOL!! I've watched her do it!
