Canada Day used to be called Dominion Day, and it is the celebration of the confederation of our country (The Dominion of Canada). In 1867, the former British colonies got together and decided to form a new independent country. At the time of confederation, we were part of the British Empire, then the British Commonwealth, now it's called the Commonwealth of Nations

So, sort of like your Independence day, except we didn't bother to fight England to become completely independent.

Thanks, and Happy Canada Day, everyone! I actually hate Canada Day because I'm not at all nationalistic/patriotic, so the celebrations don't excite me, so all that it means to me is that EVERYTHING is closed and I can't go anywhere

Hey, I think Sneaky Dee's might be open. Wanna meet for a cold one?

I'm bummed that Loblaws, my one stop shopping centre, is closed.

Thanks, neighbours to the south!!!
And Happy Canada Day to anyone else celebrating in style!

I have no plans because, as Juniper has said, everything is closed.
Although it seems it just might be a decent day for getting out, so I might go for a long walk on the trail near my place.

It's a special day for our family. We are going to go pick up Lil Jasper's baby sister from the breeder. She is going to be with us until Wednesday morning when she flies to California to her new home with Meowmy Carol, Daddy Phil and Lil Jasper.

Unfortunately, tomorrow she has to go to the vet for her vaccinations and Health Certificate, but she'll have a few days to "chill" before her flight.

Exciting stuff for us!

Have a wonderful Canada Day everyone up North here, and a great 4th of July for our American friends.

That just struck me so funny!

Happy Canada Day to all who celebrate! Maybe with all the closings, someone got the day off?

Unfortunately, both me and my boyfriend still have to work. We've got some fireworks for later tonight, though.

My husband and I are going to celebrate Canada Day by drinking Moosehead with my parents on their deck and then ordering some prescription drugs for cheap over the internet!!
(Well, we really will have the beer, anyway!)

He's from Toronto and would probably love to be at Sneeky Dee's tonight--he spent all of his undergrad weekends there when he went to U of T.

I'll drink to that!

That gave me the biggest belly laugh I've had in a while

Wow, that really gave me a good belly laugh! I guess I was thinking about the combo together.

Yeah, Sneaky's is renowned for cheap beer and nachos, absolutely perfect for starving students. They still have awesome nachos and still has that alternative vibe. Love it.
