I just recently adopted two new kittens. I would like to take them outside for walks when the summer comes, but I'm not sure if they will accept being walked on a leash. Is it easier to start now by walking them in the house first so they get used to the leash? Are kittens to small to be put on a leash and harness or is it ok? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

I would start when they are young. Just put it on them and let them run around with supervision. Get them used to the actual harness before you put a leash on it. Then start letting them walk you around the house. If it's done early with them, they adapt much faster. I tried with one of my 2 year old cats and I really think she flipped me off...LOL.

I put my cats on a harness all the time. Start with just the harness a few times for short periods to get them used to it. Lengthen the amount of time they spend in it gradually. Make sure the harness is snug but not tight. If it is too loose the will try to bite it off and may get their lower jaw stuck under the neck band. This makes for a very unhappy cat ( I know - it happened to Pepperpot). Once they are used to their harness attach the lead & let them drag it around and play with it a little. One thing is for sure, you can't walk a cat like you walk a dog - you have to go where they lead you. Enjoy - it is alot of fun watching an indoor cat become a mighter bug hunter out side!

I know my cat hates it more than anything else in the world. Even more than the dog.

I tried using them when I was moving from Kansas City to Augusta, thinking I could walk them at rest areas. That did not work out well at all. It's a blast trying wrestle a 20 lb. cat into a harness. It was very good advice to start them now. They will not tolerate it easily after they are grown.
