help for nursing mom

my cat had her first litter on the may long weekend. she is a small cat and now i have noticed that her nipples are very red and sore and have open sores on a couple. is there something i can do to help her immediately as it is the middle of the night and i can't go to the vet

Are the kittens still nursing or are the weaned yet. It sounds like her nipples are just sore from the kittens chewing on them, once the kittens teeth start growing in , they can hurt the momma cat. If the kittens are eating on there own i would seperate the mom from them.

Do not separate the kittens from the mother ... that would cause even more stress. I think that at this age, the babies can be introduced to moist kitten food if they haven't already been - and introduce the litter box now as well if you haven't already done so. Feed Momma a good, high-quality kitten food in bith dry and canned formulas and give her as much as she wants, whenever she wants it.
