First, my name is Kristl, and I live in west central IL with my BF, 3 cats: Thor, Mason, and Angel, and my black lab pup (7 mo.) Bull.

This is Angel's story.

In January, 2005, we were dealing with a brutally cold winter here in Illinois. It's been worse, but it sure has been better. I was living in an apartment at the time, well, really a duplex. My bf Nick had been looking at country houses for rent as we had just gotten 2 lab puppies. A house came up for rent about 10 miles from town, so he took me to look at it. When we pulled in the driveway, I instantly knew there was no way I was ever going to live there. It was run down very bad, had every imaginable object that can rust, rusting in the yard. Still, we took a closer look. We went in the house, which had seen better days, and looked in all the rooms. After poking around for awhile, I heard meowing. Nick instantly gave me the "no more animals" look. But, if you know me, you know that means diddly squat! I called for the cat, none showed though. We proceded outside. I have a curiosity with old barns, and there happened to be one on the property. I just had to check it out. As I was walking out of the barn, a little cat came out of the rafters and started to rub on my leg. Feral cats generally aren't that friendly to strangers, and there were no other cats around. She let me pick her up, which I knew meant she had once been someone's companion. I got her into the truck and we went to the vet. I had intended to foster her until a suitable home was found. I decided to call her Angel, for the angel who was on her side that day.

Come to find out, what happened to Angel before I found her is something no animal should ever have to go through. She was thrown away, basically. This "man" and his family lived in the house with their 2 cats and a dog. When the wife got her butt thrown in jail for no less than drugs, they had to move. They took one cat and the dog. Angel was left on her own. No food, no water. Her fur was falling out in clumps and she had scabs from the fleas biting her that no one bothered to take care of. She had worms, and her ears were so filthy they were black inside. One day she was in the comfort of a heated house, with soft places to lay and food to eat, and the next is dumped into a world of cold. No food or water for her. I'm not sure how long she was out there before I found her, I hope not too long.

I know the people who dumped her, although I do not associate with them in the least. I think they're very cruel. They had the nerve to ask for her back. I of couse told them if they wanted her back, I'd see them in court before I'd ever turn her over to them. Not a week later they asked if I'd take their other cat. They ended up changing their minds about it, though.

Needless to say, I kept Angel. She is so much healthier today. Her fur has all grown back, and it's getting thicker, shinier, and softer every day. She trusts people, which is truely amazing. She is parasite free and spayed.

Looking back, I knew from the minute I saw her she had someone on her side. It must have been an Angel.

Wow... as I was reading about her past owners, I was so furious, and I've never been that mad at someone I haven't met before in my entire life! I was seriously so mad! But then when I got to the happy part of the story, all my anger towards those people just went away. I know she's safe now, and I guess that made me feel better. Then I got to the part that said, "Needless to say, I kept Angel. She is so much healthier today. Her fur has all grown back, and it's getting thicker, shinier, and softer every day. She trusts people, which is truely amazing. She is parasite free and spayed.

You know, I always say to myself to be nice to everyone I see, because you never know who is an angel in disguise. I guess you found the real thing.

Another strange moment of this story is when I brought her home, the boys didn't hiss or act mean in any way. They just accepted her as her, like they knew she'd seen rough times. It's weird, but they just went on like there was no change in the household. She settled in immediatly like she'd always lived there. Well, after she was parasite free and everything! I'd always worried that if I ever got another cat, Thor would be very mad, but he wasn't. They're currently sleeping curled up with each other on my bed.

This is her the day she was saved... You really can't tell how bad of shape she was in, but I'm sure you can imagine.

This is her today, like about 5 minutes ago... Thor got up, though!

Hi! Welcome to TCS. It never ceases to amaze me that people can be so cruel. Angel certainly is a lucky girl to have been found by you. She is a cutie.
