Picked up a kitten from a local farm with a litter of 6 yesterday. The owner said he was 8 weeks, but he seems very small. I also suspect the litter and moterh were left to its own devices with little human interaction.

We didnt get any sleep last night for the crying and it has continued today, unless we play with it. Its heartbreaking!

1: is it normal for kittens of this age to cry so much?

2: should we leave it to cry to learn to spend time alone, or should we give it as much attention as possible?

3: any other ideas how to quieten it down, especially at night?

Otherwise, he seems fine.

Many thanks

I would invest in a snugglekittie- there is an ad in our Market Place Forum for this wonderful tool. I would also suspect it is younger than they say it is, and missing mom and the siblings- is it sleeping with you or do you have it off in another room? It needs interaction, just go into the room and lie down on your back on the floor and let it climb all over you. Sit with it while it eats, read out loud to it while you are on the floor and make sure it has a nice bed it can snuggle into- the round fur beds are good because they feel surrounded by other furry things-

Being that it was born outside on a farm, I doubt they paid much attention to the kittens at all so it doesn't know really what you are-

He probably misses his mom and his siblings. The rescue I volunteer with does recommend adopting 2 kittens around the same age so they can spend time with each other while you are away. It definately helps to have a buddy.
