My mom just called me, she sounded horrible. She told me she had another Meniere's attack just about an hour ago. I asked her how it started and she said, "That was the weird thing, Juicy knew before I did I think".

She said it was so weird. Juicy kept following her around everywhere meowing like crazy..like he knew something was wrong. She said she felt fine until finally she finally sat down with him cause he kept following her, and that's when she started to feel the attack coming on. She hurried and took a pill, called my dad to rush home, and then it started. She had vertigo, vomiting, the whole bit. This time it only lasted about 45 minutes, though, thank God.

Isn't that weird, though? It's like Juicy knew and was either warning her or making sure she was alright.

I've heard of people who are prone to seizures having specially trained dogs as pets because they can sense when they are about to have a seizure. Does this mean that animals can pick up some sort of signal like a chemical or something, and know when something's about to happen to a human?

Any thoughts on this?

EDITED TO ADD: Mom just called me, she just woke up from a nap and she said that Juicy is STILL by her side. He hasn't left her yet! What a sweet boy! I'm going to Petsmart again today to get him another toy!!!

I've seen some things on that, something like the body puts off a difference scent that animals can smell even when we think there is nothing wrong. Juicy must be a pretty smart and empathic kitty to have picked up on that!

I have no technical knowledge on this but I've always believed they can detect hormonal/chemical changes in our bodies before we do - like we give off a different odor.

I've seen programs on TV about how animals can sense when a person is about to have an attack of some sort. What a precious boy Juicy is!
He defintely deserves a new toy!

I've heard of that. I think they can tell. Even when we are sick they stick by us. I deffinatley think they can tell and I do remember other people talking about it. Juicy deffinatly deserves a nice new toy! And lots of cuddles too! I'm glad your Mother is feeling better too!

That's pretty amazing! I bet Juicy just jumped way up on her favorites list!
Juicy the Nurse?
It must be an extra comfort for your mom, too, to know someone's watching out for her and cares for her so unconditionally.

Glad to hear your Mom is OK!!!
She's got Meniere's Disease...it's a condition in the inner ear where fluid isn't draining properly or something like that, and it throws off the balance of the whole body. The inner ear is where the equilibrium of our bodies is and if something is wrong in there, it can throw you into vertigo, which is the condition of EXTREME dizziness. It makes her vomit and so dizzy that at some points she can't even respond to us.
it's sad!

I HAVE seen about ONE other cat who knew when it's owner needed to take insulun. I think - especially if it happens again - you should notify the news and Miracle animals show and let them make Juicy a Hero!

TWO thumbs up and two TOES up for Juicy!

Hooray for Juicy!!! What a sweetie. I saw something on 60 minutes (maybe) about how dogs can be trained to smell cancer. Animals are amazing that way--but you need to get the word out on Juicy so that people know cats have special medical powers too!!!

You know, I really do believe that cats can smell a lot about us that we don't recognize. From the number of times my cats have decided to run and hide from me on a day I'm planning to take them to the vet when as far as I could tell, I'd given no outward sign, I've been suspicious that they could smell my stress as I think of the battle ahead of me to get them into the carrier.

Sure glad your mother is okay, and
for Juicy.
