Dippy's Speech

Did anyone watch tonight? How was it? the usual "oh so earnst" reading off the monitor? The slight lean in when saying "liberty". Who died today George? Anyone YOU know? guess not. But those cocktail parties go smoother now since your tax cuts stayed.

how do these people live with themselves?

I was just looking through the news and found a transcript of the speech if this helps:

Speech here

Thanks for the link, Squirtle. Here's a part I enjoyed.

"America has done difficult work before. From our desperate fight for independence, to the darkest days of a Civil War, to the hard-fought battles against tyranny in the 20th Century, there were many chances to lose our heart, our nerve, or our way. But Americans have always held firm, because we have always believed in certain truths. We know that if evil is not confronted, it gains in strength and audacity, and returns to strike us again. We know that when the work is hard, the proper response is not retreat, it is courage. And we know that this great ideal of human freedom is entrusted to us in a special way — and that the ideal of liberty is worth defending.

In this time of testing, our troops can know: The American people are behind you. Next week, our Nation has an opportunity to make sure that support is felt by every soldier, sailor, airman, coast guardsman, and Marine at every outpost across the world. This Fourth of July, I ask you to find a way to thank the men and women defending our freedom — by flying the flag … sending letters to our troops in the field … or helping the military family down the street. The Department of Defense has set up a website — AmericaSupportsYou.mil. You can go there to learn about private efforts in your own community. At this time when we celebrate our freedom, let us stand with the men and women who defend us all. "

I think President Bush did a good job. He had the usual few verbal stumbles, but overall made the case for not tucking tail and running from Iraq.

Argh... it was on TV, but I couldn't watch it all. It just makes me too angry.

Well put.

Speaking of which, they don't get paid for calls home and the USO has a program for buying them phone cards, I donated. I recommend a donation if you are looking for something to give to!

I absolutely feel the same. I did watch the speech....Bradley decided to watch Comedy Central in the other room b/c he got tired of listening to me yelling and cursing at the tv . It was the same BS as usual, but some Dems have done a good job of pointing out many of the lies in his speech.

I only watched the first few minutes of it. I've become way less political than I used to be. Election Day last year felt more like another Civil War. I have friends on both sides of the fence (Dems & Reps) so I just smile and sit right square in the middle now.
