Well i recently got a farm cat, and it sneezes and has a runny nose, it eats healthy. It doesn't play too much though, it sleeps alot, (its an outside cat) all my other cats that i use to have would run around and play in the garden and stuff... this one doesnt... but when im out there and i walk somewhere it runs and follows me. It likes to be petted alot... but i have NO CLUE whats wrong with it... is it sick? is it dangerous? its 6 weeks old. My parents wont let me take it to the vet till its 16 weeks old (thats when we give it shots). But that's to late.

That sounds like a URI, upper respiratory infection. All it takes to cure it is a quick trip to the vet, and some antibiotics. Perhaps you can tell your parents this. She needs some antibiotics.

Your kitty could be sick and needs to go to a vet soon!! Also I personally think 6 weeks is too young to stay outside. Goodluck with your new cat.

I agree with above, kitty needs to go to the vet now. Our cat developed a cold as a kitten and needed antibiotics. If untreated, it could get worse, especially at that young age. Please don't wait, if you can help it. Keep kitty warm, too, but not outside where it can pick up more germs and infections while it's sick.

Good luck.

Yes, as the other posters stated, it can get worse. He needs antibiotics. Perhaps you can tell your dad about your concerns?

When you decide to take on the responsibility of owning a pet, it shouldn't be considered "wasting money" when it becomes sick and needs to see a vet. At only 6 weeks old, that kitten can become very sick from an upper-respiratory infection, and can pass it on to the other cats it is in contact with.

Please consider having it checked out.

She probably meant that she can't waste money, since her parents have to pay for it. It's hard when you have to get your parents permission or money to take the cat to the vet, but perhaps you can talk to them and tell them that you are concerned. If your parents see that you are really concerned and the kitty needs immediate attention they will let you take the cat to the vet I am sure. So try and talk to them if you can

Seems like there was a jumble of words here. I'm sure no one meant to hurt anyone.

hi there,

less than 2 weeks i was forced to put my kitten to sleep after it agonized for days with oxygen and I.V. He had ulcers in his mouth and a completely stuffed up nose, therefore obviously would not and could not eat. He went into a coma and we thought it was time to stop his suffering. We put him to sleep. Our kitten had the exact same symptoms as yours; sneezing, runny nose, then after just 3 days he stopped eating, vomited once, and stopped purring, wanted to sit on my lap continously (was probably cold because of a very high fever!). If your kitten has an URI (upper respiratory infection) it can be cured, but in kittens you have to act immediately because everyday is vital. We gave our kitten antibiotics too, they said we had saved him in time, but it was already too late. Please DON'T WAIT if you love this kitten, and i'm sure you do.. talk to your parents if they're worried about the money...maybe try and get them to read our posts so they realize the possible danger the kitten is in?...but please take him to the vet...when my kitten died, after trying everything that was humanly possible, a part of me died too. good luck.

It varies... you'd have to give your vet a call and ask. Around here, it's about $30 for the exam, plus medication.

the cat stopped sneezing and has no runny nose... it just sleeps alot... anywayz i found the problem... on its belly/neck it kept on itching there then it bled so we fixed that place up (we put like a wrap and stuff) and it was getting better... but it still was itchy there (we thought it was fleas) but its not!!! cause we found something there... its something sticking out and its kinda swirly at the tip, i have no clue what it is!!!! what is it?

that's strange-maybe a foxtail? Those gets stuck in pets fur and then work thier way into the skin. But that still dosent expain the sneezing and runny nose.

Everyone who has previously posted is correct. The kitten, at 6 weeks, really is too young to have left its mother to begin with. A vet needs to see him for what sounds like a number of potential issues. Call a vet local to you and inquire about prices.

it was 7 actually and right now it is 9 weeks old... and also my profile may say 25 but i never put my true age online... but if you must know i am 14... also i just found out what was on its neck/belly... my mom said she once had it... its this bug that yyou get when a fly or w/e bites you... and it stays there and itches... so the cat almost killed itself itching there... we didnt know she had that until we took of the wrap (some medical wrap to heal it) then we found out.... then the next day (today) we pulled it out (it got out easily) now the cat feals sooo much better and its not meowing as much... and not itching anymore!!! it hasnt sneezed anymore and it is eating healthy
so far everything is going great so it might of not had URI... and i read on a site its ok to take a kitten away at 7 weeks
anywayz thanks for everyone to help me but i think its going to be fine now (i hope)

one quick question... if the cat had URI can that mean its better now? or can cats never get rid of it???
