Is this true about Hartz?

A few people have told me that the over the counter flea prevention made by hartz can kill your cats or make them very sick. this is the stuff you put between their shoulder blades. Is this true? want to know because i work at a petstore and dont want to recommend a product that can kill your kitty!! I don't use it on my kitties because i would rather use a vet. formula, am very weary about over the counter stuff. (use revolution.)
