Dear all
I wonder if you could please offer me advice on a problem that is greatly distressing me and my family.
There is a stray cat in the neighbourhood that we have 'adopted', and recently it has become very clear that she is heavily pregnant. She has put on an enormous amount of weight, and must be due soon, since her stomach is hugely swollen, and she cannot even tuck her back paws underneath her when she lays down, but instead splays them out either side of her.
The problem is she has no signs of teats yet. I know that they should have been prominent by the third week, and certainly by this stage. We are greatly concerned about this. How is she to feed her kittens? Please offer us some advice.

I know that's most common, but Pepsi didn't really seem to "get" hers untl the kittens were born, and she was the best nurser. Someone more knowledgeable than I am will probably happen along soon to give you a more definite response.

Have you felt any babies yet?? Having a large tummy doesn't always indicate pregnancy. Also...if you have allowed her free access indoors and outdoors, you will want to stop that until she has had her kittens and has been spayed. Best to keep her in an interior room with no access outdoors. Good Luck.

Thanks for your responses. I have done as Katie suggested and brought the cat into our home. I think she is bound to have the kittens v soon. She is so fat and heavy she cannot stand. She's laid in the same place all day and looks so uncomfortable. She hasn't the energy to wash herself even. I have got a box in a cool sheltered place for her. But no teats! I'm so concerned. Evnshawn's advice rested my mind a bit - thank you so much for that. But I'm still mad with worry! :-(

Thank you for saving her- I would take her into the vet and let him have a look at her- that will help alleviate your worries.

My stray cat just had babies on June 20th. She didn't have any teats. She is doing fine. The only thing I have noticed is that the babies don't seem to be getting enough milk. Maybe momma needs help. I am going to go and get some KMR (milk replacement) and help her out. You could do the same. But all will be well. Be positive everything will be fine.
