I just adopted a new kitten and have be "researching" for foods. After reading so many threads, I am thoroughly confused!

I have 2 10yr old cats who have been eating Purina ONE for the past 2 yrs (Senior mixed with Hairball; they "grew up" on Science Diet). When we got the kitten, who is 10 weeks, we bought the Purina ONE for kittens. She will eat it moistened but when it is dry she tries to scratch and cover it like it is poop

I am looking for better choice in food for all of them that doesnt have meat by-products. I am unsure about the corn issue - it seems like it depends on the kind of corn as to whether or not it is an issue in food.

For the older cats, a lite food to help them shed some pounds (hopefully). For the kitten, a good kitten food she wont try to cover up! I dont feed canned food currently.

I have access to these:
Royal Canin
Nutro Natural
Felidae
Natural Balance
Wellness (garlic?)
Innova (not as big of a selection - Adult Lite and EVO)
Chicken Soup
Nature's Variety Prairie

Suggestions are appreciated

for a kitten if your shopping at a petsmart or petco I would go to nutro or royal canin... if you shop at a smaller store the previous two and innova and felidea ....

Can you seprate the oleder from the younger...???
For the older one s try natural choice indoor senior it has ingrediants to help shed ecsess lbs as well as hairball control

Thanks for the reply! I picked up a sample of the Felidae, the kitten wasnt impressed & tried to cover it up too. I'll have to see what they were feeding her before I got her.

See if the store gives you samples of above mentioned food. If not, buy really small bags (trial size) and see what your kitten will like best.

Dont have any suggestions..GOOD LUCK..we feed Purina Pro plan here, and we have a "covering" thing after we eat. But that comes from their wild instinct i have been told, that they bury their food and come back for it later. They have never refused the food before, and just do that for a moment when done.

hmm...I never knew cats "buried" their food!! My fat guys never get that far, it's all gone before I know it!! and i thought i knew alot about cats..haha. watch anything with garlic, I do know that is toxic to cats. How much i don't know, but i would rather be safe than sorry.

I feel both of my cats Felidae dry and wet food and they LOVE IT! It's a really good quality food with all human grade meats. Keeps them full longer and less pooper scoopin' for me

I highly recommend it! The switch over from Iams to Felidae was smooth, they gobbled it up, I was very pleased

I know felidae (wet food) has a specific type for older cats too!

They also tried a sample of Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul (also a very good quality food), which they also loved. I had to buy a can of that while waiting for my 24 case of Felidae to come in!

Good luck with your search!

This will seem silly but is there any human foods the kitten likes??? If so try to find food that is flavored like that... I have found one cat liked simple recipes two meat two or three grain and the other like s as many flavors in one as she can get...

I think from that list consider the natural balance and the nutro natural - I currently use the nutro natural wt. management for my guys, it works fairly well.

Def. see if you can get samples since you have a finicky kitten, and I agree contacting the person/place you got your kitten from, to see what the diet was previously, is a good idea.

Thanks for all the tips
Found out she is from a stray's litter the family that helpd the mom deliver fed her something cheap from the grocery store (my husband brought her home from work last week so I wast sure of her upbringing). I picked up the RC Babycat for Zoe. She is eating it but still tries to cover it up before and after she eats. Of course she wants to eat the older cat's senior formula Purina One

I think I will try the Nutro Weight control for my chubbies - with 7% ash, has anyone's male cat have any urinary issues? Boris has never had any porbems before in that area.
