Hi, I'm new to this forum and have just gotten two kittens. The first kitten, a male persian 16 weeks has been in the house for 6 weeks now. He is not neutered yet, next month. The second kitten is a spayed manx female from the humane society. She is 8 weeks and I just got her 2 days ago. Since I brought her home and just "let her loose" the male persian is ignoring me and keeps pinning down the little girl kitten until she yells. At the same time however, they seem to have fun playing. Am I to believe that the persian doesn't like this new member of the family? What should I do? I recently read that I should have separated them, I didn't know this until today unfortunately. I had thought because they were so close in age it wouldn't be a problem. Any advice and comments would be much appreciated. I'd like to have my sweet persian boy happy again. Thanks!

I would put these two in separate places until after you persian is neutered. He is just following his instinct and it is kitten season, so his instincts are a bit stronger than they would normally be. It is not always a good idea to just throw two strange cats/kittens together and expect them to get along. A gradual introduction is usually best, unless you have a transit house, such as I do, and the resident cats are used to new ones coming in- so that is the norm. Even still, I do separate the cats for at least a week following a very set procedure I have developed over the years. Very rarely, do I encounter problems.

Thanks for the advice. Hubby thinks I should get rid of the new kitten :-( I really like her though. I'll put her in a different room for a while. Maybe I can get my persian neutered sooner too.
