It has happened again. About two months ago I took Tyson to the vet because he was itching near his back end a lot.... The vet said it was some sort of anal sac infection??? He relieved the pressure and gave him a shot of antibotics.....

Well, it's back and even worse. I have to make an appointment for the vet today but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this. He is itching like crazy and pulling out small clumps of fur
I just moved about 5 months ago and I'm trying to find a new vet who is good. (I didn't like the one I went to last) Does anyone know anyting about this???? Could it be anything else. He doesn't seem to have any other symptoms???

Thanks

Dexter's anal sacks plug up. Do a "search this thread...anal sack or gland."
There have been quite a few threads started about anal sack plugging.
You are doing the right thing by taking Tyson back to the vet, to get a clearer picture about what his problem is.
Ask questions until you understand Tyson's diagnosis. Be clear about the treatment plan if the vet feels it is a chronic condition.
I always take a list of questions with me because things can be chaotic.
I do not let the vet go until they have been answered.
Please update after your appointment. Good Luck

If you have a strong stomach, ask your vet to show you how to express the glands yourself. It is nasty, but sometimes, they just get plugged up and you need to act to give the cat some comfort.

I don't know if this is relevant but my sister's dog had the same kind of thing, it was an allergy to a certain type of grass, only solved when they moved. On her butt when she sat down.
Or perhaps she's developed a food allergy?

Thanks all for the quick reply. I have an appointment for tomorrow at 4:30 so I will see what she has to say. Hopefully we will like this vet....

I am planning on asking her to show me how to do it if it happens again YUCK!!!! I wonder if there is a way that I can prevent it from happening. Diet???? I don't know what causes this to happen. But I have my list all ready to ask the vet. Thanks again!!!

Well, I took Tyson to the vet and I guess there is good news and bad news. The good news is that it's not his anal glands

The bad news is the vet has no idea what it is
She said it could be a number of things including allergies, over grooming, or it could be mental. Bur she said that he was in good shape.
She's pretty sure it's not his anal sacs because they are not red or inflamed.... And she squezzed them and nothing really came out (YUCK!!)

She gave me lots of medicine for him and he will not take any of it. Why can't we just explain to them that this will make them feel better??? And even worse Tyson runs from me know. Yesterday to get him to the vet I had to dig him out from under the couch and scruff him to get him in his carrier. Now, he sees me coming and runs the other way.

Sometimes I think it would have been easier to have a baby

Any advice?? Or does anyone have any experience with this???
