Brilliant me stayed out in a pool ALL day with not an ounce of sunscreen on and now i am somewhat crispy.

I hate using aloe vera gel and refuse to use it. I have just never found it helpful and it is icky. I was just wondering if anyone had any other things that they have used and found helpful that would cool off the intense stinging pain.

Vinegar will take the sting out of the burn. You'll smell funky, but feel a WHOLE lot better.

I have used aloe with menthol in the past, it both soothes the burn, and helps prevent peeling.

Did you get a cool shower as soon as you got out of the sun? That helps a lot. And remember the more often you have serious burns, the higher your risk of skin cancer. So next time, slather on the lotion!

Nope, no cool shower. I will take one in a little while though.

What about a mint lotion? It is for feet, but do you think that would cool it off or make it sting more. I was going to put that on, but figured I would ask first.

Instead of aloe vera gel, try aloe vera lotion. It feels a lot less gooey and sticky, and makes the burn feel better, at least for a little while. I find it also helps the sunburn to heal faster. You can purchase it in fragrances, too.

I agree. You can also get some that is mixed with cucumber. It is NOT sticky like aloe vera gel but really helps burns.

I don't think you need a script to get hydrocortisone cream in the US (here in Canada you do). I had to get it from a doctor after being out by a pool without sunscreen a few summers ago after developing a nasty, blistering burn.

i never wore sunscreen in my life, and while i was on my holiday i started to get a rash, this was last week by the way. anyway nothing showed up on the first day but i was incredibly itchy as if some animal was eating me, bf poured vinegar on my back, still nothing, he got a lighter trying to burn these "animals" still nothing... by then i was crying because i was so itchy, so my dad goes ok just go back into the Sea everything should be fine. BIG MISTAKE, once i came out and had a shower at home i started to get lumps and i was wiggling but under bf's law i was not to complain, my family couldnt figure it out what i had untill i went to the chemist. she says YOURE ALLERGIC TO THE SUN!
So from now on i have to wear 60spf (sp?)

Anyway i just wanted to tell you that, if aloe vera isnt for you (i love it) you can smear a big load of Nivea body lotion, it cools the skin down and it wont peel as much later if you are crispy

I got sunburnt when at my friends house and she slathered plain yoghurt all over the ouchy bits and then we let it soak for 30mins and then washed it off. It felt so good and no pain the next day and no peeling. The worse you are the longer you leave it, tasty but it works!
She's from Uzbeckistan and this is what her grandmother used because there was nothing else.

Soak for twenty minutes or so in a cool bath with a pint or two of milk added to it. Use cucumber slices on your face to cool them off. I don't know why this all helps, but I was told it years ago, and it does.

I usually put on cocoa butter and it works well for me. But one time when I was a kid I got a really bad sunburn, i had blisters on my back and was shivering, my grandmother put sour cream on it. I have heard other people do that as well, I have even heard yogurt. It was really cooling I must say.
I have no idea what it would do for your skin though...
