Can anyone help? For the last couple of weeks, every time I open yahoo mail I get asked, not just to give my password but to fully sign in and reply to them with one of those 'hidden word' boxes (this happens at least twice a day). This is despite my continually ticking the 'keep me signed in' button. BUT I cannot contact yahoo to ask why this is. I have been all over their site and there is no contact email that I can use - they very carefully ensure that any question you ask is on a form designed ONLY for a specific purpose, not problems like mine. I am getting very angry - any ideas?

Mine only asks for my password, too. I have a friend, who was tech support for Yahoo. I'll ask him about it.

I share your pain.

You can go to My Account...find the page of preferences for how often to check security. Best choice available is once every 24 hours. You must check 'save changes' on THAT page... not at the end of looking at all of them.
Been here...done that...it doesn't work.

I thought it was interesting Yahooie added the one extra check in page, about the same day they finally were required to close all their USER created chats...due to 'bad things'. It's a big system and at least the efforts continue to try and protect the kids .

Curious ? I am getting the second sign in page each day...I am a moderator of several serious health related groups.
I'm wondering if this second sign in page is only for Mods ?
No biggie either way... just curious .

Yeah... I've noticed more and more sites are asking for hidden words/random alphanumeric sequences.

I think the first site I noticed was Ticketmaster when I would buy concert tickets online.

I'm with you

I struggle sometimes to figure out what the letters are...and get them wrong. Maybe being a human bean is the trouble ?

I don't mind doing it occasionally, but right now it is every time I go to Yahoo, however many times a day that is, and it is getting tot he stage when I will stop using that account. But not to have any contact where you can question them about it - that really ++++++ me off!

That is really stupid! The only way to contact them is to PAY for it and it's only in the US.

But I did find this

Posted on Yahoo:
Delete your cookie files. A cookie is a small piece of information stored by your browser that helps identify you. If your cookie is not being accepted correctly, you will be logged out of your account as soon as you move to a different page. This may be blocking your current ability to log in or stay logged in.
To delete your cookies, close all browser windows, find the "cookies" directory, and delete the cookie files inside. As always, make sure that you have selected the proper files before deleting.
Maybe that will help?

If you are using Internet Explorer there is an easier way to delete the cookie, than what that says. I can help you with that if you need

Jenny! I am getting exactly the same thing - and it is driving me insane!

At first I thought it would be a one off, but now I am getting it everytime I want to log in!

I can't find anywhere to properly contact Yahoo either - they are so clever with that, aren't they?!
If you do find any way of contacting them, let me know and i'll email them too!

Well, I did it, just deleting the yahoo cookie. And when I signed in again afterwards I was only asked my name and password, no 'hidden word' stuff. But I will not believe it solved till 24 hours have gone by. Again, thanks for suggesting that route - I would never have thought of the cookies. I'll let you know if it really works!

I don't quite know what to think - yesterday it did not ask me to sign in again, despite several breaks. I did not sign in today till this evening, after my computer had been switched off and it demanded the full caboodle, including hidden word. But I don't know if that was because I was actually switched off, which I don't normally do. I will wait and see tomorrow. Anyway, thanks again for trying, Ash.

I struggled for a long time with Yahoo, and always got tangled up in stuff -- and I'm not basically dumb about this stuff, either -- so I just walked away from my Yahoo account, and took an Operamail account. Also free (through every so often they will ask if you want to upgrade, but just click no and they go away). Easy to sign up, easy to sign in, well-behaved. Here is a link, if you are interested.

Thanks Fran - I'm not totally dumb at all this either, but this has been driving me mad. I may try it.

I checked with Dave and he had a notion: do have the Google toolbar? If so, its security features may cause this problem.

Ash -it seems to have worked! Yay!
For 36 hours now I have only been asked for full verification once, when I turned the computer off. So I am cautiously optimistic. Thanks very much. Anyone else with the same problem, see if it works for you too.
