I was getting dressed this moring and Mooch and Noodles were wrestling like usual. Well Mooch came into the room where I was and was kind of crouching down and chirping as she walked. Then she has started lifting her rear into the air and kneading with her pack paws all the while chirping. Is she in heat? They are both scheduled to be spayed on Tuesday. I was on the phone with my mother when she started that so my step father got on the phone and he thinks it does sound like she is in heat. Fortuantely Noodles is just looking at her like shes nuts. (They are sisters.) If she is, what do I do!?! She won't come into contact with any males. They are just now 4 months old too. Any advice will be most appreciated! None of my cats have ever gone into heat before I've had them fixed, and most weren't fixed till they were 6 months. Please help!

It sure sounds like it, though 4 months is quite early it's not impossible! Persil behaved just like that before I could get her spayed.

I think you're right. Classic signs. Check with your vet. Some will spay while in heat (perhaps charging extra), some just won't do it.

Why didn't I make thier appointment one week earlier!?! I made it a month ago and could have but I wanted to wait till they were a full 4 months old! The vet will still spay her but I do believe he will charge extra. Maybe he'll give me a deal since I'm doing more than one.....I hope! Ahhhh!
Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure how they behave at all with going into heat, but I haven't seen her do any of it again since thoes few minutes this morning. She's gone back to her normally affectionate and playful ways. Oh my......I am crossing my fingers for Tuesday.

Just to help you a bit..................

The signs of a cat in heat are different to dogs, they do not have as much blood loss and most of the time it is completely hidden by frantic cleaning. Their behaviour is the best thing......they become very loving to their owners and rub up and down anything and everything, they will roll around the floor and stick their back end up and kneed the floor when you stroke them. If your cats stay in at night they will often meow/scream loudly and quite often become a nuisence. They will try to escape from any crack in windows and doors and believe me they will suceed if your not careful.

There......thats the main signs to look for but I would guess that you will already know most of them.

If they are going to be spayed it might be an idea to call the vet and try to get the appointment moved forward , before they drive you mad.

You said that she is 4 months which is most unusual as they usually hold on until they are 8-9 months at least but i have known it to happen.

Good luck, keep sain

My mood at present
need a hug

Oh my gosh.....I just remembered. Last Wedesday she was driving me insane because she would not leave me alone. I attributed it to the really really bad storm we had later that night. I guess that could have been a sign I missed. She has been pretty affectionate since shortly after we brought them home. Noodles is the same sometimes too. (Driving me nuts wanting love.) They have both been quiet at night. I am looking forward to Tuesday! Thanks for your help!

My Siamese went into heat at 5 months. It isn't too uncommon with this breed, I have been told. She had good mammary tissue development (a good sign of felines coming into sexual maturity). Most veterinarians will spay while she is in heat. It shouldn't be a problem and IMO it is rediculous for them to charge you extra (spaying can be expensive enough, depending on where you go). If they try that then just move the appt. to a week later and you should be ok. Like stated earlier the first heat doesn't usually last but a couple of days. Other than her behavior felines don't usually exhibit any other external signs of estrus (i.e. blood). The several days she is in heat will definitely be very annoying. One of my females cried constantly unless she was asleep!

Buffy had her first heat at 6 months, and I swear she went into heat 3 times in one month! It drove us mad, but we eventually got her spayed. We'd originally scheduled to have her spayed just before she first went into heat, but then dad blew the money on his car so we had to wait, and bam, just like that, she goes into heat and we had to wait even longer to get her done.

Willow went into heat when she was 10 months old, I think. At least she was done sometime in early April when she'd been born late the previous May
