I was sitting at the computer typing this afternoon, and the cats were out on the porch. Squirt began meowing, as he is prone to do a lot. When he wouldn't quit, I went out to see what he was talking about. Out there in the yard was a baby kitten. We went out to him. He wasn't feral, or didn't appear to be, as he came to us. Just as we were trying to figure out what to do with him, my neighbor came out. It was her baby who had made an escape from the house. We got a hold of him, although he was wanting to scamper away. So, he's home, safe and sound. Squirt's the hero of the day for discovering the little wandering guy.

Not the most exciting story in the world, but my cats are routinely pretty dull.

Well, I'm just glad he was able to put all that yakking he does to some good use. Joseph was of no use, since he can't meow.

The sad part is that I hesitate to bring them in because of possible FIV. Seems more times than not, some stray has it.

Glad he was on the alert Deb. Lost kitties don't often get found that quickly!

That's strange that Joey can't meow...Opie doesn't purr either...he just breaths real heavy...he tries though...:laughing2

How smart he was to alert you to the stranger! And how good you were to actually look rather than assume it was a squirrel or something. You were a real Christmas angel!

Oh, Sunlion, if only you knew! I tried "talking him down", as he regularly starts conversations when he wants something. When he just wouldn't quiet down, I had to go and look as to what all the fuss was about.

I swear our kitties are smarter than even we give them credit for sometimes!

Deb,
You're never gonna believe this, but Murphy got out last nite! I thought he was in, but Opie was on the window sill and kept clawing at the screen meowing...well, I thought it was 'cause he's used to being an outside kitty and he just wanted to go out...so, I just told him to cut it out...it was late and I was exhausted. He usually cuddles up with me to go to sleep at nite...all the cats do, but I was missing Murph and didn't think nothin' much about it. I just though he concked out somewhere. So, Op's still on the sill this morning, so, I walk over there when I got up and OMG...there's Murph right underneath the window! He was out all nite! He's never been out before in his life. So, I ran and got him and he didn't want to come in initially. He was full of hitchhikers and stickers! Lord knows where he went? *freaking out over here* I finally got him in...jeeeeez, I took all the stickers off and put him down by some food and water. He gobbled that up soooo fast. He must've worked up some appetite. As of right now, he's concked out all right! :laughing2 Man, that's the last time I leave that door open to bring groceries in! I'll never, ever not listen to Opie again! Obviously he should be a spokes person for EF Hutton!

Hugs,
Catarina

My God, Cat, that was lucky! I'm glad Murphy is back safe and sound. This morning I couldn't find Joey when I got up. I looked in all his usual hiding places. I kept thinking I accidently left him on the porch overnight. Finally he came prancing out from who-knows-where. Little brat. All this after a rather bizarre dream in which I found Squirt near a big wreck between a train and a tractor trailer and he had a broken leg. Note to self: lay off Spanish food on Christmas eve.

Deb,
This has been one hell of a morning! First, I'll start with the new digital camera...I need a cf reader...whatever that is! Damn salesman...okay, now for the BIG NEWS! Who's turn is it to get out now! Guess...yep..OPIE! He thinks he's fine and dandy. No one knows he's out, then I see the door's just slightly cracked...oh no! Me and my bud's searching the house...no Opie...okay, so we go outside, walk down one way...I thought to go back, I didn't figure he went 1/2 mile up the road. So, across the street there's a huge lot, but it's thick with brush. You guessed it...he's in there...So, Ms. Dummy over here goes in because I hear his meows! About 1/2 hour into it and a head full of burrs and hitchikers I see him, but still can't catch him. Okay, so Michael's trying and then Mom's giving it a go...they give up after another 1/2 hour. My Mom goes inside and then she goes back out (all the while I'm picking out the burrs from my head, I still have matted hair). I hear her call for Michael. Opie's in the culvert (big drain tunnel thing). Okay, that's only about 20' long...finally after crawling through a tunnel I get him out. He has NO BURRS, NO HITCHICKERS! I'm furious,...and have to fix food to go to my grandfathers ...*cries* *whines* ...sorry to ramble...I just thought you'd like to know what a bad boy he is! Thank God Joey has enough sense not to do something so stupid. I think I'm going to bite him now.

Love,
Catarina

I suppose it depends on what you feed them, but we have something we call "the Universal Cat Call". If we've been calling Blackie for a while and we know he's nearby but he won't actually come in, we take a can of cat food outside. As soon as we pop the top he appears, and if we take the lid off all the way, he runs into the house and sits by his dish. I have never had a cat refuse to come, unless he was too far away to hear it.

Well, normally I wouldn't be so upset, but he's not in his "home" that he's used to and isn't familiar with this area. Not to mention, he had major surgery about three weeks ago, on his pelvic bone. So, I was frightened that he would hurt himself getting around...WRONG...looks like I was the one who's not the "cat"...:laughing2 Obviously, he knows better than I do, but I still don't want him to be an indoor/outdoor kitty. That scare was enough the first time and I don't want to relive that. I'm sure he doesn't either!

Cat
