My cat had a discharge yesterday at noon. It was clearish with a little blood. She has been having small contractions for over 30 hours now. I would not say she is in "hard labor" but this is very confusing to me. No where have I read that it would take this long once she started having contractions. She has been staying in her bed, on her side for the most part, resting. She does "answer" you when you talk to her. She looks tired, but not lethargic. I am worried. We've got water near her. Yesterday she did get up to use the litter box and then she threw up while out of her room. Is all of this normal? Is she just in the beginning stages of labor? Any help on what is suppose to happen at this point would be helpful. She does love it when we pet and rub her belly. I can feel maybe three kittens. She is young, under a year I think. This was an accident pregnancy. She ran out while in heat.

Is there an emergency clinic that you can call and explain the situation to (just as Sam suggested)? Since you are worried..that would put your mind at ease since there isn't always someone on this message board to answer all questions immediately.

This thread is good for the general pregnancy/birthing process:

One quick recommendation: since your cat got out and got pregnant, keep her in an interior room with no access outdoors until she has been spayed (once she weans the kittens). Cats can go into heat pretty soon after giving birth.

Welcome to TCS by the way.

I've got a call into one now. Waiting for a call back.

My husband thinks I am over reacting. We lost a cat before during labor a few years ago, so I guess I might be worried that its happening again.

He notes that our cat doesn't seem distressed, seems to actually be in pretty good spirits, and isn't showing any of the signs our last cat had during labor. He said I should be a little more patient and allow this a chance to take its course.

I just thought this process would be quicker than it has been.

Thanks to you both for your replies, btw.

Dawn...given the cat you lost...I don't blame you for your concern. I would also be a bit more cautious since you do not know who she mated with....that is why I recommend spaying her once the kittens are weaned. Let us know what the vet clinic says....it's always better to be safe than sorry.
