Sasha got his CBC back today, the doctor called me this afternoon. I already cried my eyes out and am just being totally positive that we can have good results on Monday. Sasha's white blood cell count is elvated. The top cap/normal is 5.3 and his is 5.5 - enough to run a FeLV test over the weekend. Additionally, his blood sugar is dangerously low, at 54. 65 is normal, 45 is seizures...but he's showing no outward signs of ANY infections of illness and his urine panel was perfect, and his red blood cell count was perfect. There are no white gums and pallor. So we wait.....

Dr. B who we adored when she saved his life after the coyote mauling a year ago has gone back to Nova Scotia, so we have a good doctor - he's gentle and kind and very, very thorough. We like him! He was so surprised at the blood sugar reading he called the lab to make them walk him through everything they did.

Freddie (
RIP 11/9/03 FeLV) and Sasha were very close. In Freddie's last days, Sasha would wash and bathe him. We are thinking that something indeed was passed at that time, but because strapping 20 lb Sasha was so strong (and the mauling hadn't happened yet) that his immune system was never weakened. Now that 20 months have passed since Freddie, it might be that "something" is getting through.....

So we wait......

Please for all your prayers and vibes that Sasha aces this. I know he used up 8 of his lives, but Sasha is so much a part of my life as SiSi's son, I refuse to lose him!

You have my prayers, and I will keep him in my thoughts (he's already in my heart, even though I've never met him in purrson). Here's hoping for a dental issue brewing or something easily fixed.

Thank you so much, Pat.
Do you know much about low blood sugar and diet?

I'm going out to mow the lawn.

Oh Eddie, I'm so sorry to hear this. Mega vibes heading Sasha's way.
He'll be in my thoughts, and like Pat and Dan said, I hope it's something minor that can be cleared up easily and quickly. Your poor, sweet boy has been through enough in his life.

Hi Elizabeth, no I don't but I will see what I can find out. It may be a bit though, you'll probably beat me....having issues with Tyler tonight, so not sure how long we'll be at the vets tomorrow
not to mention business stuff etc. In other words, I'm a bit swamped and rattled, but will try to see what I can find sometime later tonight or tomorrow.

Off the top of my head, I would wonder if scheduled feedings every 2 to 3 hours will be part of the suggested response?

oh gosh, you have your hands full.
You go tend to your guy. I can research it, yes. And yes - you know Sasha eats at 7 am and 7 pm w/o snacking, he just never snacks, preferring to dine like a king. I might look into that, thank you my dear.

All I was finding was referencing hypoglucemic episodes in a diabetic cat...so I think I am going to ask Dr. Doolittle to advise you. Off to drop her a note.

I know that you have a good vet and that answers will be forthcoming soon. Will hold good thoughts for all of you that this is nothing major like you are fearing.

Thank you everyone. Nothing like good old-fashioned yard labor at sunset to get my mind off it. Sasha sat on top of the picnic table and watched me, like he always does. I went over and talked to Freddie at his spot, asked him to visit with his older brother tonight and comfort him.

Oh I do hope it is nothing so major. Try and think positive thoughts over the weekend and don't let it get to to you - there may be nothing to worry about.

Eddie please know that sweet Sasha has stacks of positive thoughts coming from over the pond. I hope that everything turns out ok and this is nothing more than a minor blip in the road.
