i have two kittens - 6 months old. the female went into heat before her appointment in 2 weeks so i pushed it up and had her spayed. her sibling couldnt fit into today's appointment so he wont be neutered till july 7th. i was told to keep them appart for one night (the day of her surgery). right now they are in 2 seperate rooms but they are crying alot for each other. i dont know what do to becuase i feel so badly about seperating them and i dont want to stress either of them any further ---at the same time, i want to follow dr.'s orders so that she wont suffer any complications.

Keep her away from the brother, he could do her harm if he got into the room with her. Dim the lights, play classical music softly (harps work wonders) put his favorite toys and food into the room for him as well and if that doesn't work, then just put a pair of earplugs in-

Chances are when they do come together he will fight with her. She smells different- meds, vet smells, other humans handling her, whatever she came in contact with.

Whenever one of my babies has come home from the vet, the others hit, spit and/or hiss...simply because of different scents/smell.

I find it helps if I touch the cat that came back from the vet...hug, pet...really get their scent on me and then touch, pet, etc. to the other cats. Sort-of mingles all the new scents.

I know how you feel with those little cries...it's hard to the ears & heart.

Instead of using wetwipes...I would wipe her with a used t shirt of yours so that she has your scent (which is familiar to both her and her brother) on her. My cats who have been together for YEARS still hiss and chase and hit each other when they come back from the vet. It takes a couple of days for things to get back to normal..and that's with a regular vet visit...not anything that takes as long as a spay. Just follow Hissy's advice and they will return to normal over time.
