There is a stray kitten that I have seen in the neighborhood before. It is very friendly and will most of the time let you pet her. She even likes to go up to my neighbors puppies and plays with them in the backyard pin. She is around 12 to 15 weeks I believe. I found her yesturday laying on her side out near my big tree in the front yard. I moved her into the garage. She is very lathargic and kind of out of it. She has gotten up and moved over to some water I sat out and sometimes when I go out to check on her she has hid behind something. (instinct i guess) When I touch her belly I can hear crackles under her skin, at first I thought it was broken ribs but now it is all over her tummy where no bones are. Her ribs feel okay and her legs, head and tail as well. She was also oozing a little bloddy urine. I would try and take her to a vet but I can barely afoard my cats vet visits. I'm not sure if she has eaten something bad or has been hit by a car or something. She keeps wanting to drink water and hovers over the food dish. Her gum color was very pale but had returned to pink now. Also when I found her she was shivering and now she isn't since I warmed her with towels and her breathing has changed from very labored to almost normal I would say. I was wondering if anyone has experienced the crackling noise under the skin. I think it may be air or fluid. Her belly also seems a bit larger than usual. Any help would be appreciated, and again, I would try and take her to a vet but honestly don't have any money right now to spend on anything. I was wondering if this is something she will recover from or is this fatal and she will die soon?

She's been hit by car- the crackling noise is more than likely internal bleeding. Please get her to the vet quickly so he can either help her or end her suffering-

ring round a few vets, as its not your cat they might treat it for free if they are animal lovers or work out a payment plan for you.

And like Maverick_Kitten said, since she isn't your cat I'm sure there are some vets who would cut you a break on the cost of treatment. Please call around and see if there is a vet who will help her. This sounds way to serious to try to deal with on your own. There must be a vet or animal hospital who will help. Animal shelters may be able to refer you to someone. That poor little kitty is in my prayers.

Just a guess here but it could be worms. I've read where parasites/worms in the stomach will cause a distended belly and a crackling sound as they literally eat the animal from the inside out. That would account for the anemia(pale gums) too because parasites can cause a huge red blood cell loss. If caught in time- the animal will recover.

I do apologize, it could be other reasons why the cat is this way besides being hit by a car. It just sounds a lot like when Blink got hit, what her belly did, and what it sounded like that it hit a nerve and I jumped to post. Hopefully, it is something minor, and does not involve cars.

That is a tough situation, and I know exactly how you feel. I recently found a stray cat with an injured possibly broken leg in my yard.

Is there an ASPCA or a county Animal Control Department nearby? You could take the kiity to them and surrender it to their care. If the kitty can be treated they will take care of it, then offer him up for adoption, If the injury can't be treated, they will end his suffering.

Just in case the kitty isn't a stray, you could post up some flyers in your neighborhood describing the kitty and where he's been taken.
