Do any of you use some form of birth control for your cats? I have an 8-week-old female kitten. Due to geographical location, I am unable to get her fixed at this age. (earliest 5 months). she's also got 2 brothers. I would like to give her some sort of birth control to keep her from going into heat until I can have her spayed. I have researched some, and decided that I would never give ovaban to any of my cats. Are there any other alternatives?

Uhhh....the only thing that I know of is to get them spayed/neutered. And at 8 weeks, I hardly doubt she will be in heat tomorrow. My female kitten is 4 months old and she still hasnt gone into her first heat yet...and my vet said that she needed be to 6 months. Maybe someone here knows something?

You misunderstood me. I want to have some on hand just in case she starts coming into heat before I can get her fixed. It would, in theory, be easier to keep her seperate from the boys if she is not giving them a yowling reason to go after her.

Call and ask your vet. I didnt misunderstand you. If the boys get to the right weight and size, would the vet consider neutering them first? I hear that now, they have a size/weight limit, and once they hit that mark, the vets will spay/neuter. Have you looked into that to know what your state/county regulations are?

I know. They've all got an appointment to be fixed in a few months. I just want to make absolutely sure that she does not get knocked up before then, like her mother did. None of the vets here that i know of abort.

If your only concern is her brothers, you can get them neutered at an early age, before they reach puberty. That should achieve what you want to do.
