I found a stray cat about 7 months ago. She had really bad worms when I got her, and now that we fixed that she is pregnant. Just started showing about 1.5 weeks ago. I have never expierenced this before and was just wondering what exactly I need to do to make it as comfortable as I can for her. I want her to have them in the house ( cause there is some other strays running around outside that won't seem to come to me) so I want these kittens to be friendly. Would a clothes basket work or is that to small? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot everyone!

Given your situation and the fact that there are strays outdoors...I would recommend keeping her in a single interior room (like a bathroom) in your home where you can set her up with a nesting box (you can find information here):

Due to her stray status, I would highly recommend that once she has the kittens and weans them that you have her spayed. Keep her indoors (without access outdoors) until you can have her spayed so she doesn't become pregnant again. If you need a list of low cost/free spay clinics..let me know.

Katie

P.S. Regarding the other strays...you may need to get a humane trap. You should be able to contact a humane society or SPCA to see if they have one. Having these cats fixed will be very helpful to them.

WOW! Thanks for all that great information! Lots of help there...
Yes she is a friendly stray. When I found her she had worms something terrible and was real skinny. It took her a while to let me come near her, but she eventually got used to me. And she is great with the kids too!!! So yes I am glad I took her in.. :] Thanks for all your help!

Might not be bad to have her tested for FeLk and other disease, too. You never know what cat can have a fatal feline disease.

FeLk is Feline Leukemia. It is a disease, transmitted by scratches, saliva, mating, and other direct contact that effects the immune system. It's a lot like human AIDS. They become very suseptable to illnesses, and normally die early, unfortunately.

As for the cost of spaying, I'm not too sure. I know the cheapest I could get it down here is $40.

There are 2 diseases you should be aware of FLEV...Feline Leukemia and FIV which is Feline Aids

http://www.southpaws.com/topics/felv.html

I would contact the low cost clinics I provided..average costs for spaying will differ depending on the area. Also...if you are concerned about funding her spay....you can always adopt out the kittens with a "spay the momma" requested donation.
