I went to the adoption center to check on my foster's today and Chief was gone. Chief was a large gray and white boy with a funny thick stumpy tail who played like a kitten and always wanted attention. Often he played too rough, and we knew it would be hard to find him a good home. But everyone who came in fell for him.
They put him down yesterday because he was sick (the details are hazy).
I don't know much about him, except that he was an abuse case before he went up for adoption. I know his last two months with us playing in the cattery were probably the best of his life. But I'm still sad and angry. And the what if's. My heart aches with the wish that he'd been in a loving home his whole life, and I'm angry. So angry with how these things turn out, and they could have been different.
Chief, you were just another cat in the system, but I did cry for you my boy.
This is a picture I took just last week to post on-line and help get him adopted.
