I went to the adoption center to check on my foster's today and Chief was gone. Chief was a large gray and white boy with a funny thick stumpy tail who played like a kitten and always wanted attention. Often he played too rough, and we knew it would be hard to find him a good home. But everyone who came in fell for him.

They put him down yesterday because he was sick (the details are hazy).

I don't know much about him, except that he was an abuse case before he went up for adoption. I know his last two months with us playing in the cattery were probably the best of his life. But I'm still sad and angry. And the what if's. My heart aches with the wish that he'd been in a loving home his whole life, and I'm angry. So angry with how these things turn out, and they could have been different.

Chief, you were just another cat in the system, but I did cry for you my boy.

This is a picture I took just last week to post on-line and help get him adopted.

I will light a candle for Chief....I am so sorry that he didn't live in the happy home he deserved, but THANK YOU and thank all your co-workers in the cattery who made his last months happy ones. He was such a beautiful cat, and it must have been heart-wrenching to give him the bittersweet gift of a humane passing. Now he is on the other side of Rainbow Bridge, getting all the pets & strokes & love that he wants, from all those lonely hearts who yearned for a loving cat to care for. Thank you for posting his story so that all of us who see his pic can honor this precious life.

Aww, he was gorgeous. At least he knew love and happiness in the short time he had with you, that makes all the difference.

If you added two dark marks over his nostrils, he would look like my outside boy Will. What a dashing cat, so proper in his gray tuxedo. I'm sorry he is gone, how nice that he had a few happy months, and someone to care about him. Condolences on the loss of Cheif, just another cat!

Oh, he's so beautiful. Here's to Chief! I don't know what else to say. I'm sure he's gone to a good place now--home at the bridge.

Chief was such a beautiful kitty. Hearing about Chief and so many other little souls that are lost every single day without the chance to have a real home...it angers me and tears at my heart. In every cat I see someone who would make an impact on our lives if only there were enough homes for them.

My heart goes out to Chief...

Thank you so much everyone. I still get tears in my eyes when I look at the picture I took. But it does make me feel better to post it here and hear from other people who care.

He was a beautiful boy. It's great that he was safe the last few months. If he was alone out on thestreet, he may have left us sooner. I have a hard time seeing cats at the shelter. If I could, I would take every single one home.

I'm very sorry that you lost your friend, Chief. What a handsome guy. Looks a bit like my 6 yr old gray/white boy McCoy I lost 2 weeks ago. The part about being a wee bit rough fits, too. I wish you the best in what I'm sure is a trying time.

HI. I am so sorry to learn of Chiefs' passing. It is hard to believe that he had a horrible life. He was so beautiful. Those pink lips. Those big, bright green eyes. That white as snow fur with a little touch of grey. Who wouldn't want to
this little boy?

I wanted to know if it is alright with you, I would
to name LILOs only little boy after Chief. I had named him "Chance" But I
the name Chief. If you dont mind I would like to name him in honor of him.

----RIP---- Chief

a pic of my little grey furball...

What a wonderful, comforting idea, Big-Cat-Fan! Now Big Chief can look down at Little Chief, and tell all our other TCS cats up there together, "Hey, That's my boy!" I pray that Little Chief has a blessed, happy life!

Awe, he was just adorable, I have a hard time leaving the pet shelters because I want to take them home. Every once in a while my husband and I go there and bring cat food and whatever we can afford (usually not much) but every little bit helps.
