My cat Tippy gave birth to five beautiful kittens 2 1/2 weeks ago. Everything has gone great. The kittens are healthy, Tippy is a great mom -- but she seems "depressed" sometimes. I know it sounds crazy, but she'll sit in the middle of the kitchen while I'm cooking just staring into nothing or she might just stand perfectly still in a room seeming to be thinking about something - or like she forgot what she ws going to do next!

Even the best of Momma cats sometimes just need a little "me" time though and that is what this behavior sounds like to me ... just a bit of away from the kids, reflecting upon whatever cats reflect upon, with no immediate needs or demands from the babies.

If you haven't already, it may be a good time to discuss with your vet the option of having Tippy spayed once the kittens are weaned ... make the appointment, start saving up your spare change to pay for it and when the time comes, do the right thing for Tippy.
