i know everyone here is a responsible cat owner, but if you could spread the word that would be wonderful

please for the health of your cat do NOT use a canine (dog) product on your cat. and if you happen to do so rinse the cat off with warm water NOT flea shampoo. and then wait a day to take the cat to the vet. flea and tick products made for dogs can be toxic to cats. and if at all possible get you flea and tick preventative from your vet.

please please please read the lable before you apply anything to your cat, it will be cheaper that way.

I would disagree and say that if you use over the counter flea shampoo based for dogs on your cat you should go to the vet immediately. It is imperative to read the label and follow the instructions. It is also safer to just use Dawn liquid soap to stun the fleas, then comb out the cat with a flea comb destroying all fleas in the path. Then go to the vet for proper flea treatment.

This reminds me of a recent "Animal Cops" where a well-meaning person applied canine flea treatment to a stray cat, not bothering to read the label, and the cat almost died. Excellent cautionary notice.

I don't think that any type of over the counter flea treatment should be used on a cat. I think you should only purchase the medicine from your vet.

For us here in NZ we can buy medicine OTC which is exactly the same as the vet sells (Advantage, Frontline, Revolution)

However, if your cat has a reaction to any meds, you should take them to the vet asap!
