Help with kitten diarrhea

My wife and I are fostering a mother cat and her kittens for the local SPCA. When we got them the mother was VERY thin with 5 kittens, one was small and weak and failed to thrive and died in a couple of days, another weakened and died in a week or so, the other three are eating well and gaining weight, but since we have had them (about three weeks now) they have all had diarrhea (mother and kittens). the stools sometimes firm up a little periodically but they mostly have diarrhea. they are being fed canned and dry food. the mother has gained some weight since being here. Any suggestions on possible causes for the diarrhea and possible solutions?

why hasn't this family been vetted? Diarrhea and illness is small kittens is something that takes life quickly. Please let the SPCA know that this family needs a vet.

Since you have lost 2 kittens already...I agree with Hissy....a trip to the vet is in order...just to make sure the rest of the family is healthy. I recently fostered a mom and her 3 kittens and 1 of them died of pneumonia. To be on the safe side, I took the rest of the family in to be health checked.
