Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone's here from NZ? I recently accepted a job offer in NZ and will be moving in the next few months once I get my papers ready! I'm excited but at the same time very sad since I will be leaving my babies behind (under my mom's care).

What's the animal shelters like in NZ? Are they big? I'm keen on doing some volunteer work in shelters. Still thinking if I should adopt a cat or bring in some of my own (but I know this is going to be expensive). I might import my cat to NZ maybe someday if I earn enough $$$ to!

Thanks for listening to me! I'm really excited.

Congrats Jalapeno! I am from New Zealand as well as WellingtonCats - she is from wellington and I am from Christchurch. Whereabouts did you get your job in??

I am importing my cats, there is no way I am giving them up, they are my babies.

I don't know about the size of the shelters - the one I have been to was small and it was part of the Cats Protection League.

If there is anything I can help out with, don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Kiwideus! I'll be staying in New Plymouth, Taranaki... I think!

I've tried visiting the Biosecurity & MAF websites to find info on how to import cats from rabies endemic areas but nothing came out. I've been told it's hard to import cats coming from places like these... but I'll still be trying though. I can't leave my babies behind... I love them too much too!

I have no idea what to expect in Taranaki! I hope it's a city! Or else I'll get soo bored with rural setting! Hahahaha!

Oh wow! I would love to meet you guys someday!

5 hours?!?!?! Wow! That's a long drive! Hahaha. My friend also got accepted for a position in NZ, she's going to be in Palmerston North. Maybe once I got everything running we could meet up... NZ TCS get together!!

Yeah I tried searching for sites on the internet for animal shelters but there isn't a lot. How about RSPCA in NZ? Is it good?

Five hours isn't too bad. There is a Taranaki Cat show, it's in the last week of May usually. I didn't get a chance to go this year. Too busy with other shows.

Oh that's awesome about your friend. Palmerston North is only 90 minutes away!
and it's one of my favourite places to be!

We have the SPCA, it seems to be quite good. I prefer the Cats Protection League though. If you need any help with finding a local one or anything, just ask and I'll get onto my NZ cat group.

I'm really excited! A TCS member from the Naki!

Wow, I'm glad to hear Taranaki is a nice place! Whew!

Wow! A Taranaki cat show! That I'll have to see!

I also applied for work in Bay of Plenty, but the Taranaki group offered me the job first. But from the websites I've visited BOP is more beautiful than Taranaki... but anyways, I'm glad to have landed a job in the first place!

Naki's a great place, fascinating waterfront, brand new funky museum and library, a nice mix of city and country. My MIL lives there with her ginger long hair Biscuit in Hawera. Lucky you to go there, are you heading there by road, nth or sth?

Oh and they have THE BEST ice-cream bar down by the waterfront, SO many flavors!
