I just got LILO from the vets. She got fixed today. They told me at the vets nothing to eat for the rest of the day until the morning. Nothing to drink either. I think thats mean. Poor baby is scouring the house for somehting to eat or drink. Does anyone know if that is right... no food or drink?

Follow your vet's advice. Whether or not you think it is mean is immaterial, your vet is looking out for your cat's best interest.

I don't remember my vet. telling me my females couldn't eat or drink AFTER surgery/spay...I know they can't eat from the night before until they go in the next day.

I'm surpised and happy to hear your Lilo is up and about so fast looking for food. I remember all my females coming home from their spay/surgery and being totally out of it...very cranky little girls.

Glad she is home with you and all went well.

That is why I feel bad. She has not eaten since last night. I know she must be starving.Or atleast thirsty.
Thank you so much for your kind words.

It's actually for her health and it's related to the anesthesia. If they eat or drink too soon, they could become ill. After my cat had an operation, I kept him confined to one room. I think it encouraged him to sleep it off instead of begging for food.

Trust me, I've been under general anesthesia, and it took almost 24 hrs for me to keep anything down, even with follow-up anti-nausea meds (I was kept overnight). Cloud_shade's right, keeping her confined to one (maybe darker) room will encourage her to sleep and allow her body to heal.

Glad to hear she's doing so well so far! Skritches from me and headbonks from my crew for a speedy recovery!!!

Since she's active and seems to be recovering rapidly, why don't you call your vet and ask if she can have a LITTLE BIT of water now?

Follow your vet's advice!!!!!!!!! That's all I will say - people who opt to treat their pets themselves and give in sometimes regret it. When my Siamese had her spay surgery, she was at first too groggy to eat but the vet OKed water if she wanted it so she did get that. She made up for lost time the next day - yours will too!

Thanks you guys and gals for all the great advice.

I did close her in my room about an hour ago. I peek in on her and she is just waiting by the door.
then she tries to ecscape!!
She acts as if nothing has happened to her. And she is sooo lovey. She is purring like crazy.
The cut is barely noticable. She looks great. I am happy.

I will follow my vets advice. He did say she could lick an ice cube so I put on in a bowl for her. She doesnt want it though. I bet b/c its too cold.
