My friend called me after midnight last night and told me her husband(who is deployed to the middle east) called her to tell her something happened that we need to find out from my husband(who is here) because he cant discuss it over the phone.

A U-2 pilot crashed and died last night somewhere overseas. The pilot is from this base and all of the wives are going crazy because we dont know who it was yet.

Please send all good vibes and prayers that you can, this is devastating to this base. There are so few people here and the U-2 is the only plane we fly out of here. We are all upset by this.

Here is the article from this morning:

I'm so sorry to hear that - it must be awful for all those with loved ones overseas wondering whether they are safe. Equally terrible that someone is going to get the terrible news. My thoughts are with you all

UAE is one of our overseas operating bases... my husband is there every 4 months. There is only one base in the U.S. that has U2's though and that is here(Beale). I feel so bad, my stomach hurts. We havent heard who it is yet. Chris should know by the time he gets off work today.

Hang in there! I'm a military spouse and so I know EXACTLY what you're going through. Very familiar with the "We don't know who it was" thing. Deep breath!

My ex was in the navy, and I do remember the fear of hearing about such things, and not knowing who it was. My heart goes out to each and every family there. Someone's spouse and son was lost, and everyone else lost a friend. How tragic.

Thank you to each and every military employee, and the families that back them up.

My husband said thank you; thank you's in general mean more to them than people realize... it really does boost moral.
