I'm so excited because they are building a new shopping mall close to my home and in it will be a WalMart!! YIPEEE!!! The only other department store we have here in Garfield really is Kmart and BigLots. What are the names of the places you shop? I know Susan told me about Primark in the UK. What about the rest of you?

I live in a very fast growing suburban area (its the fastest growing county in the nation!!) So needless to say there are TOO many shopping options.
We have 5 large shopping malls within a 45 min. drive of our house. Still I think my favorite place to go is Target. I love that place!! I also love going to Petsmart to help with the kitties and browse for stuff for my girls.

we have walmart down the road, about 15 - 30 min walk with a car it only takes about 2 minutes they are building another supermarket further up the road, its going to be Penny and a few clothing stores, but as i tried to shop at penny before they dont have the variety like they do at lidl. of course im talking about supermarkets.
As for clothes shopping ect, i dont know, i rather go to frankfurt as it has this long road of shops, here we rarely have shopping centres.
we have one about 30 mins away, its apparently the biggest one in germany but to me its boring..
because of course the ones in australia and england are alot larger than that one.

Berylayn, I love Target's selection, like an upscale Wal-Mart, but I hate going there! They've got like thirty registers and invariably will have maybe 3 of them open! I know we stood in line the other day for a good 10-15 minutes with only a couple of people in front of us, and if we had tried to change lines it's a sure bet that by the time we would have gotten there that there would be someone that beat us to it they were so far away. Is yours any different? I even e-mailed them once about the problem (it hasn't gotten any better). This isn't occasionally either, but every time we go in.

Otherwise I'm afraid I actually do most of my "shopping" at Lowe's and Home Depot

I only go to WalMart as a very last resort. I like to shop at privately owned independent stores as much as possible, because they have the flexibility to offer better service. Then, if that choice isn't available, I shop at the locally owned chain stores. Then, national. Only if I am desperately in need of something that all of the other choices don't offer will I go to WalMart, or Home Depot, or the other "big box" stores.

They are putting the small retailer out of business, and devestating the centre city core.

Its funny you say that. My fiancee and I met working there and we know ALL the problems of scheduling people to work there all too well. There are good days and bad days, but FORGET going on a weekend. Those are usually the days when no one can work and there are lines to the back of the store. Needless to say fiancee and I got sick of it and quit awhile ago. We just try and make sure we don't go shopping at Target during peak hours.

I have been to an ASDA walmart when I went to visit a friend somewhere else in the UK - it was great! But they don't have any near where I live

I tend to shop in department stores in London or normal hight street shops. I like Marks & Spencer, Next, Zara and Hennes
To be honest, if I like the thing I am buying I am not too bothered where I buy it from (unless it falls apart after 1 wash!)

It's not a clothes shop? Cos if it's food then it's not the same as the shop I am thinking of

That is definitely one of the things that really annoys me about big supermarkets!

I too try to shop as local as I can - but sadly all the small shops have already gone from the area
So I do tend to get stuck shopping at Asda Walmart

Places that get all my money:

Target
KMart
PetSmart... a *lot* of my money spent there
Kroger for groceries

eBay! -- for everything, from gifts, to car stuff, to garden stuff, to house stuff, to clothing (Victoria's Secret clothing on eBay is waaaay cheapola)

online clothing stores: Chadwicks & Newport News have really nice, long hippie skirts. Seems to me lately all the clothing in the mall is low-cut and sleazy looking.

I avoid our Walmart in this area like the plague. It's dirty, messy, seems very "out of control", and well the Target down the road always has smiling people and I hate saying this, but, better music being pumped through that sound system.

Here in Orlando there's more shopping than you could even imagine. We're loaded with outlet centers (which have Guess Outlets, Armani Exchanges, Coach Outlets...all places where the Outlet prices are STILL too expensive), about 4 giant malls, and countless strip malls. I HATE WalMart and absolutely refuse to go there. Though Target is similar, I will shop there. I actually really like the SuperTarget we have right near UCF. I get a ridiculous amount of things done there!!! So, here in Orlando I would say SuperTarget, Publix (for groceries), Victoria's Secret, and American Eagle get all my money.

Ormond Beach has been becoming increasingly upscale since the time I was born and is now loaded with really nice boutiques. I love when I'm home and can check out the great stores.

Basically I love shopping and am blessed to call two areas home that are loaded with great money spending opportunities!

The county my brother and his wife live in, Flagler, just north of the county we grew up in, was the fastest growing for 2003-2004. They've got a giant shopping center with 2 phases going in less than 1 mile from their house and are really excited to see what's going in there! The poor county could hardly keep up the roads with the growth! I'm sure it's been a lot like that for you too.

WalMart for cat food, Target for some clothes and shoes (I love Isaac Mizrahi's line). I have two large malls, with a 10-minute drive and a Super Target, 5 minutes away.

My favorite local store is Old Pueblo Traders. They are primarily a mail-order company but, since they are based in Tucson, they have local outlets. Their annual dress sale is a don't-miss. Dresses and suits are priced at $9.99-$19.99. I've gotten $200.00 suits, for $9.99 there. Once a month, they have a back room sale - everything is $3.99.

A lot of my clothes come from catalogs: Newport News, Lerner and Shepler's Western Wear.

I know exactly what you're talking about! In fact, before I had moved to Orlando my brother took me there and bought me my senior prom dress from a store in that HUGE outlet center.

I live in a suburb (in Illinois) about 45 mins from downtown Chicago. There is a lot of great stores here. I have a few favorites, when I shop for clothes and gifts I go to Marshall Fields, Jcpenny, Kohls, Tommy Hilfiger, Swarovski Co, Things Remembered, and Old Navy. For food, I go to Dominicks and Jewel. I recently bought a new house, so I shop Home Depot, Expo and Lowes a lot.
