Today is the first day of the....

Dubai Shopping Festival....!!!

How can i not love a place where twice a year there is a month long festival of shopping where everything goes on discount and there are appointed officials who go around all the stores making sure that everything that is on display is on sale.... apparently the summer festival is even better than the winter festival...

For a whole month we'll have fireworks in two locations every night.... and burn plastic.

And at a couple of the malls shoppers will be showered in flower petals while they shop....

Can you believe it? We're going to go check out this flower rain thing next week. Hopefully it'll still be raining

( i moved to dubai last year and am still being pleasantly surprised )

Oh wait until i tell this to the girl i work with, she'll be kicking herself!!.

She was in Dubai only 3 weeks ago and thought that she got some great bargains then!

make sure she takes her new shoes off before she starts kicking herself

Seriously she's going to be fed up big style!!

How do you stand the heat out there because she said it wasn't the hottest when she went, and that it was in the 90's on an evening!.

She brought her pictures in yesterday and it looked lovely She stayed just further along from that hotel thats like wind sail?!, the Burje el arab or something?!

the burj al arab. the only 7 star hotel in the world. we've been there for tea and... well if you're used to hotels the burj will probably just seem loud and very vegas like. however if it's one of the few hotels you've ever been to then prepare for some serious jaw dropping. I didn't like it... too gaudy.

Anyway i think i know the hotel she stayed at... but can't think of the name right now...

Yup... it's getting pretty hot in here.... this morning at 9am it was 40degrees c outside... most people here just live in doors for the summer. everyone has central air conditioning and the cars are all air conditioned and no one walks anywhere here because cars are sooo cheap. you can get a second hand BMWz3 for about 20,000USD.

all in all... i'm glad i moved out here. it's a great lifestyl if you don't mind the heat.

She said it was an experience and she would go back.

Oh and while she was out there she said their busy building a hotel underwater, did you know that?!. I don't know if i could stay in something underwater though

i was in dubai for 3 hours and a bit for a connecting flight and my mum loved watching those men in tea towels! she wanted to take pics of them but i told her not to because they might get angry.
also i was really embarrased at dubai airport, i went through the beeper and they didnt let me go through the thing again i had to go in the cabin and the lady had to touch me everywhere luckly though i didnt have to strip naked or anything

YEAH!! It's the hudropolis. the building site is like... a 3 minute drive from me...

that's not the only crazy thing that is being built out here...
you've gotta see it to believe it....

I've just told the girl i work with and she's so jealous!! When i told her how close you were to that underwater one she couldn't believe it!

I have seen the sales in Dubai on the holiday shows over here! There is so much stuff you can buy

My old boss used to travel to Dubai quite a lot on business - he would fly first class on Emirates then stay in the Jumeirah Beach Hotel - I think thats the same one you are talking about (not the underwater one though). It looks like a ship in the sea

I think I would melt from the heat ... I love shopping but you couldn't do it in that kind of heat cos you would want to try things on and then just get all hot and bothered .... and sweaty.....

yup that's the hotel we drive by every now and then...

well i'll let you know what the shops have on sale soon.
although the last shopping festival we didn't buy anything... brains were short circuited by the amount of stuff going on
