Recently a vet told someone I work with to get a urine sample from a cat simply by waiting until the cat goes in the box and placing the cup underneath her (the cat).

I can't imagine how a cat would let you do that and still feel comfortable enough to urinate. Not to mention how tricky it is to catch the cat in the act.

I was wondering if others have other methods they can share here.

I just got a urine sample last night and it is pretty easy. This method has always worked for my cats. First if you have more than one cat, the one you want a sample from will have to be isolated in it's own area. Then you take plastic straws and cut them into about 1 inch pieces and put in an empty kitty litter box. you don't need very straws--maybe a box and a half--it won't even begin to cover the bottom but the cat doesn't care. For my cat last night we had to wait almost 24 hours but he did use it. After they urinate you can just carefully pour the urine into a jar. this has worked every time and I have 16 cats. Katha

have your vet give you those "litter pebbles" that do not absorbe. The are black and are to be substituted for the regular litter and are just there so the cat can go through the digging process. Since they do not absorbe - the urine can be collected very easily. Good Luck!
