I haven't posted here for a while. I had come here pretty regularly last summer....right up until the site crash of Dec. '04. Then I got busy doing other things and haven't been here.
What brings me back is what made me a member to begin with. My mother-in-law. Last summer, she was here for 3 months, and it really upset my male kitty, Samson. (He's the all gray kitty lounging on top of the sofa pic below). He lost some of his tail fur and started sleeping in the litter box, due to how stressed out he was.....he doesn't like strangers. My hubby, son and myself are "his" and are allowed to be here....anyone else is a stranger, no matter how long they're here, or that they've been here before.
It took Samson 2 months to believe that she had really left, and 2 vet trips to make sure there really wasn't anything medically wrong with him.
Well, what brings me back, is my Mother-in-law is back.....this time for good. How do I get Samson to recognize her as one of his people? And not have him start sleeping in the litterbox again? He just started getting his tail fur back....I don't want him to lose it again, his tail looked so horrible this past year. My vet recommended anti-anxiety pills for Samson, (Samson has OCD--obsessive compulsive disorder), but I don't really want to go that route without trying other things first. Any suggestions? Should I "introduce" Mom to Samson as though she were a new cat?
Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem with their cat and a new person?
