Is there any tests that can be done to check a cats hearing? What do they do? Can cats get deaf with old age like us? Ginger is either deaf or very ignorant!! Last night i had to put my hands on the bed for him to actually realise i was there (although he could have been sleeping heavily). When i did wake him up, i tried watching the hairs in his ears for moving and couldnt notice anything. He does it when he is awake though, he is forever ignoring me when he is outside.

Yes, cats can get deaf. Old age is a common cause. Ear infections another. I can easily check my cats' hearing by shaking some kibble in the kitchen when they're at the opposite end of the house. They have no problem hearing the sound of food rattling and they come running at full speed!!
