I had to take my 10 year old female cat to the vets yesterday due to strange smelling wee. I was told to get a urine sample to see if it was an infection, but the vet said her bladder didnt feel inflamed, so there is a possibility it is her kidneys. Got the urine sample last night (she waited till 10 mins after i had gone to bed!!) and it was very dark. Am i right in assuming this isnt a good sign? It has been taken to the vets today, but i did forget to ask when we would get the results, hopefully wont be later than tomorrow though, that is how long blood tests take to come back.

the vet rang earlier, she has looked at the urine sample, it was very cloudy, and there was a lot of blood and protein in it, which would suggest an infection, although her kidneys felt painful so it could be coming from there. i have to pick up some antibiotics tonight, and if they havent worked in 3 days, i am to go back to get some different ones. Will have to change her litter for a bit though, as she is on clumping grey litter, and i want white to check for blood.

You can just use dried beans if you want to look at the urine. Just a bag or regular white beans will trick the kitty into thinking it is litter, and the beans of course do not absorb moisture so the urine will run down underneath to the bottom of the tray.
