Holly is 5.5 months old, we adopted her on Thursday... and I would SWEAR she started acting like she was in heat yesterday. This afternoon when we got home I was giving her a good petting and BAM, she jumps in the floor and was propositioning Mika. She hasn't even been here a week, not 100% comfortable yet, and now she's in heat! AAAAAAAAAAACKKKKKK!!!

We fully planned to get her spayed but I suppose now we have to wait. If yesterday or today was her first day in heat, when should we make the appointment to have her girly parts removed?

woah, Holly!!! She must really have the hots for Mika!!!

I don't know the correct answer to your question, but I would be keeping them separated until she can be spayed, in fear that he would get her pregnant!!!

Thankfully, Mika has already been robbed of his manhood.

It was a bit funny, she was shoving her noo noo in his face and he just turned around and nipped her on it
I guess he had to drive home the "thanks but no thanks"!

From what I understand, 2 weeks following the end of her heat. Which may or may not happen, as sometimes they go back in heat as soon as they are out.
You can still get her spayed while she is in heat, although it isn't preferable. The organs are engorged with blood which makes it a trickier operation (which will, of course, cost more). I would just give a call to your vet to see what they recommend for the time frame, especially considering this is probably her first heat cycle.

I can appreciate the humor...

But vets will still spay female cats even when they are in heat. You might pay an extra charge but if that isn't formiddable please go ahead...no sense risking an intact female running around.

My vet spayed Annabelle the week she stopped being in heat. I just called to reschedule (she was supposed to be spayed that very day!) and told them she was in heat- they told me when they thought she'd be done and that's when I made the new appointment.

I have my kittens neutered at 10-12 weeks. I don't wait until the 6 month thing because that is pointless when they can get pregnant at 5 months or so.
