Hey all! I now know that Annie Oakley is deaf. We didn't get to the vet yet, but I know she is. I was vaccuming my hallway today, and decided just to go a little into my room, so the kittens can learn what a vaccum is. Mirah FREAKED OUT and
away! Annie attacked the vaccum. NO CAT can stand up to the VACCUM! I know she's deaf now. I'm glad I finally can tell. I won't love her any different.

Any suggestions on how to train a deaf cat? I've heard to use hand signals, but never heard what signals to use.

Actually that is not a way to find out if your cat is deaf. Sundance used to ride on the vacuum- he started it as a kitten, and I was managing a group of beach apartment rentals at the time and doing everything, so he would follow me from room to room and jump on to ride. Bailey lays in the middle of the floor and hisses and swats at the running vaccum and Prowler stays in the room and chases it when it is on the retreat. Only a vet will tell you if your cat is deaf.

Well, I combined this with the fact that she sleeps through loud music, doesn't react to whistles in an empty room with an echo, meows VERY loud, won't react to sounds behind her head, nor will she wake up if you talk to her loudly in her ear... she'll only wake up if you touch or move her. What do you think? Think she is deaf?

Hi Cassie,

Well she is either deaf or just ignoring you!!!
I hope that you find out soon.

I agree...Nano likes to do the hunker/stalk/pounce routine with the vacuum.

You've posted about this kitten's hearing issues before and she is probably deaf (based on previous posts)...but again, a vet needs to confirm it.

Okay, well... I won't be able to get her to the vet very soon. It'll at least be a few weeks. I've got my first car payment, I HAVE TO get CJ spayed, and I've yet to find a job... so, it's gonna be a little while. I finally saved enough for a car payment, and extra vet bills just isn't in the budget right now... but as soon as possible, I'll get a hearing test done.
