My kitten seems to have diarrhea and I don't know why. It doesn't seem to be sick and it is eating. Is it possibe that its formula is too rich maybe? Should I try diluting it down a little bit? Or could it possibly be because I have started feeding it a little canned food with its formula? I am aware of the dangers of dehyration. It was crying for a little while earlier and it had only been 4 hours since I fed it and it ate WELL. My Mom wondered if maybe it was just thirsty. I gave it some formula and it drank it pretty good. Also I noticed that its rectum is bulged out a little bit, is this something to worry about?

If the formula hasn't given diarrhea before now, it is most likely not the problem. Any time you add new foods, it can cause diarrhea. I think it is ok for it to cry after 4 hours, it may be hungry again. Go ahead and feed it. I suggest stop the extra canned food for the next few feedings to see if the diarrhea stops.

I know you are worried sick over this tiny fragile baby. Your close attention to detail is giving him a better chance at life. Yet you need some balance, take time to enjoy these baby days, as they fly by sooner than you think. (You may already be doing this, but your posts are all pretty worried sounding!) Take some breaks while he naps, and enjoy your times feeding and playing with baby.

There are many more experienced people who will post, but being Father's Day, they may be busier than usual.

Well, it has been going to the bathroom pretty good since I started it on formula (on Thursday around noon) and I noticed yesterday that it was starting to look more like diarrhea. From what I can read it is the proper color and all. It was kind of like toothpaste and started getting a little bit sloppier. It doesn't seem to be having a problem control it though. It did have an accident on the sheet I have in her box and that was the loosest I have seen it. I only fed it formula at 9:30. I will see if this helps any. She is getting pretty brave, I let her out of her box and she was wondering around, sniffing and exploring. She followed my Dad out to the kitchen chasing his slipper.
Then it wondered over by the piano and I pushed a few keys and about scared her silly
...she was trying to squeeze under the piano, which of course wasn't near enough room.

I have been pretty worried about my kitten since I got it, Mom thinks I am worrying too much over it. Sometimes if it cries when I have fed it and washed it and let it play I just don't know what to do, so sometimes I feel I just have to walk away or lose my sanity! It usually settles down after a few minutes and if I peek it is laying there or it will be sleeping.

I know if this diarrhea keeps up, I could face the danger of it dying from dehyration, so I am trying to keep a pretty close eye. Her skin turgor (picking up a little fold of skin to see how quick it snaps back) seems to be all right.

If he/she is eating food, now... and has just started to, most likely, that is the cause of kitty's diarrhea. I would just keep an eye on her, make sure she's hydrated, and if it persist for longer than 2 more days, take him/her to the vet. That's what I'd do.

I stopped feeding my kitten canned food last night and it still had diarrhea but the frequency is not near like it was. Between last night at around 1:45 am until this morning at 11 am it only did a little bit in its litter box. So does this mean that the canned cat food was bothering it? And if so what should my next step be in trying to get it to eat solid foods? Another kitten care site recommends Beechnut Chicken flavored baby food to wean kittens on, should I try that?

Perhaps you should try a different brand? Maybe kitty has a sensitive tummy. My vet reccomended Science Diet or Iams or Eukanuba, but preferably SD.
