I am writing this for my friend's cat, Duke. He was the same age as Juicy, maybe just a couple weeks apart. He was a beautiful orange boy, absolutely gorgeous and had a great personality. He got along famously with their Ocherese (spelling) puppy "Daisy". Together they were "Daisy Duke".

The other day my friend's dad was getting ready for work, opened the dryer and put a shirt in. Went in the other room to get something else to throw in, threw it in, closed it and went to take a shower. He never looked in the dryer, only threw it in, shut it and went about his business.

In that short time, Duke had climbed into the dryer, and the rest you can guess. My friend is so upset. Duke was a present for her from her boyfriend, because her other cat was really old and had just passed.

Duke was a great cat. What a horrible, horrible way to die.

Please, make sure you look in the dryer/washer before starting them up.

thanks for your response.
I always look before closing the dryer, but apparently (and obviously) he did not.

I'm so glad my friend didn't find him...her sister did. She went to take the clothes out of the dryer and discovered it. Her dad had no idea.

Wow.. that's so sad. Please tell your friend that everyone here on TCS, from all around the world, is thinking about her and her angel furbaby.

It is much harder when you do find the animal... I'm glad she didn't find him either.

How horrible! My heart goes out to you and to her and her family and of course to poor little Duke. My he play happily at the bridge until the time comes to be reunited with his people. I am lucky that my washer and dryer are in an outside laundry room that Jasper cannot get to. I have heard of this happening before several times. I guess the "cave" is just too tempting... :-(

Oh, poor little Duke!
What an agonizing death. This must be incredible difficult for your friend knowing this was a potentially preventable loss. Poor baby. This is an important reminder to us all to always look before starting the washer or dryer.

I am so sorry to hear about her loss

My heart breaks for her, I always worry that Elle will climb in the dryer, when I fold clothes she's always poking her head around. I almost always check before I turn it on. Starting today I will ALWAYS check.

Thanks for sharing that story, even though it's sad it my prevent another needless death

my mothers cat whiskers used to do that, once i turned the dryer on while she was in there, luckily as it spun i saw her and turned it off, we were very lucky.

my condolences to your friend, what a horrible thing to have happen, i'm glad she didn't find the kitty herself.

This will remind me to always check the washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven, fridge and freezer before shuting the door.

OH. My. God.

I'm in the middle of doing the weekly laundry, and I just can't imagine how he didn't hear the thwump-thwump-thwump of something heavier than a tee shirt in there before he walked off... I'm sure there's a good explanation, but I'm truly traumatized now!

That is so tragic. If anything, this should remind us all to never let our guard down when it comes to what our cats can get into or ahold of, etc.

My heart goes out to Duke and those who love him.

many of us thought the same thing. I can't imagine him doing it purposely, but at the same time, how do you not hear it?
