I have a 12 week old kitten which I got from the shelter. His ears were very dirty, black crusty/waxy stuff. Problem is, very deep into his ear is alot of junk, but Im afraid to go that deep into his ear, afraid of damaging his ear cannal. Im pretty sure hes got mites, but I before using mite meds I have to get the junk out of his ear. The stuff deep in his ear is very think and waxy, and there is a ton of it. He does not scratch or shake his head, so maybe its not mites? Anyways, how do I go about cleaning deep in his ear. And this stuff is stuck like glue, the usual routine..drop cleaner into ear, massage base, and then let cat shake.....does not WORK. I have been doing that for a week and the stuff deep in his ear is still there.

I would get a vet to do it - as you say, you do not want to be digging down into his ear, and if it is mites, the vet will know the best way to treat them.

It is best to have a vet take care of this situation. We had problems with one of Flowerbelle's ears - and it wasn't mites. It was a bacteria. They flushed her ear however they do it, and then we treated her with drops after they cultured the stuff in her ear and determined what it was. It took about 10 days to get the results, but it was worth it.
