so i had some cans of food i bought, i'm not sure, probably last year (the expiration date isn't until 2006, so no worries
that i'm finally getting around to due to some potential food allergies. kirby's now eating the natural balance venison and green pea dry food, and i'm awaiting the availability of the canned version, which they say is probably 2 weeks. so i took out a can of Pet Gold Elite (petco house brand i believe) "Tuna with Crab Surimi" which lists as its ingredients:
41% Tuna Meat with Red Tuna Meat, 5% Crab Surimi, 0.9% Gelling Agent, 0.15% Glucose, 0.003% Vitamin E, Water.
that's it. very simple, seemingly avoiding potential allergens. so i was at petco this evening returning something, and went to look for more of these cans. it's now called "Tuna & Crab Surimi Dinner in Sauce" with the following ingredients:
Water sufficient for processing, tuna, crab surimi (threadfin bream white fish, water, sugar, sodium tripolyphosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sorbitol, crab extract, soy protein isolate, paprika), sunflower seed oil, vegetable gums (locust bean, guar, carrageenan), dicalcium phosphate, dextrose monohydrate, choline chloride, taurine, vitamin E supplement, zinc sulfate heptahydrate, ferrouse sulfate monohydrate, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), nicotinic acid (vitamin B3), calcium pantothenate, vitamin A supplement, manganese sulfate monohydrate, potassium iodide, vitamin D3 supplement, copper sulfate pentahydrate, riboflavin supplement (vitamin B2), folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin K), vitamin B12 supplement
what's with all the additional stuff? i never understood why cat food couldn't just be what this can was originally, basically the meat and water with none of these other complicated sounding things. are any of them bad?
thanks,
phil
