Do you go out to movies much?

First of all I find it interesting this story comes out right when Tom Cruise is obviously using his "romance"with Katie Holmes as a publicity stunt.

Anyways, research now states that more people like to watch movies at home. I do too but I also like the experience of going out to the movies, it's like a cheap mental vacation to me.

I really enjoy going to the movies, but don't go very often because of the expense. The price of popcorn can be a small fortune.

The movies that have been put out have been hit or miss. Madagascar was not the movie critics said it was. Anything but "this year's Shrek". Star Wars was great and Batman is pretty good, acording to my firends who have seen it.

Has anuone noticed that there are alot of horror movies out recently??? What's the deal??

I'ts funny, if I watch a movie at home it doesn't have the same impact for me. I feel more distanced from it. Plus I like the experience of meeting friends, going to the movie house, getting popcorn etc.

I would like to go to movies more often. Actually, let me rephrase that. Earl would like to go to movies more often. I really don't care either way; I've just never been into the whole theater experience. Besides, it's close to $40 for the two of us to see a movie when you factor in popcorn and drinks ($10/ticket and we all know that there is a popcorn racket in the theater biz!). I can think of much better ways to spend $40 that will last longer than 2 hours!

I like both experiences going and staying in to watch a movie. That being said for a while there, there was a drought for good movies. Finally summer is here though so I'm looking forward to a few movies.

I'm amazed that people buy the treats at the movie theaters. Over priced, stale popcorn and over priced candy are just not my thing. I'd rather buy a nice dinner before hand or just save the money for other things.

I find ways to keep it cheap, I am into matinees, and then I split popcorn with a friend. I don't end up paying much.

I went to the movies ALL THE TIME before I started dating Bradley. He was never a fan of going to the movies b/c he smoked and you can't smoke in the theaters! You can imagine how excited I was when he quit...even though he still could care less about going!

To me, movies aren't movies without the popcorn. I'm a popcornaholic anyway, so once I smell it... and then, of course, I need a drink with it. Anyway thats why we don't go very often...probably 2-3 times in the last 4 years.

Marge, if we ever go to the movies together - get your own bag!

I go if I really think the movie is worth going to see for $6-$8. Otherwise I wait till Tues at the budget theater. It is only $1 (cheaper than renting!).

Movies I have seen in the theater lately have been:

Robots (budget) * *
Be Cool(budget) * * *
Mr. & Mrs. Smith* * * * *
and going to see Batman Begins later today.

I really LOVED Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I go to movies to be entertained too. Not all movies have to be a "Monster's Ball" to be good.

Oh, and to save extra $$$ I usually bring in a large purse with nothing in it except two sodas and a treat bag.

I've been to the movies maybe four times in the past ten years. I really prefer to wait till the DVD is out.

I probably WILL go to see the War of the Worlds starring Tom Criuse when it comes out at the end of the month. It was filmed in my home town.

I do enjoy going to movies, but often the timing doesn't work for us, and we end up not seeing something we would like to have gone to. Popcorn isn't really an issue, because we're not really into the second rate stuff most movie theatres offer at breakthebank prices, and we've usually just finished dinner, anyway. It's really pleasant to finish dinner and walk seven blocks in the night air to see the late show. Trouble with that is that it's kinda late when we get home again, if one or both of us needs to be up in the morning. Most weeks, that only leaves Friday night, which is when we do our nice dinner for the week, and often aren't clearing up until 10 or later.

When I was with my ex-bf, we never went to movies. It was just too expensive for two adults and two kids, especially when the kids want an Icee, popcorn, chocolate, candy, and to play video games.

BUT NOW --- that it's just me and my girl?? We go at least twice a month! I pick something I wanna see by myself (like, Star Wars) and if there's something good for her (like, Madagascar), we'll go. I LOVE to go to movies by myself, no one to talk during the movie or disturb me... and I love to go with just my daughter. We get to chitter chatter before the movie & then afterwards, talk about how good it was / or bad it was.

I do like ta watch movies at home, but normally I'm working on something in or around the house so I just don't rent dvd's unless it's something really worth it. I think Cold Mountain was the last thing I rented and I watched it like 5 times in one weekend (Cuz of Jude Law tee hee hee).

I like seeing movies in the theatre, but it's so expensive that I rarely do it - usually only when I'm on a date and he's paying.

Not that I'm a tightwad but we saw starwars last sat. $8.25 each for tickets and $14 for the 2 med sodas and large popcorn (BTW we ordered too big of a size) My goodness $30. We could rent a couple DVD's for $6.28; pick up a pizza (for 2),soda for him a couple brewski's for me and left over $$ for ice cream!!!
And the kitties get to watch for free.

I never go out to the movies. I LOVE movies, though, and I make sure and watch every movie I want to see, in the comfort of my own home.

I go to the theater all the time...AT LEAST once a week. Last week I saw 3 movies at the theater . Tomorrow night I am seeing the new Batman movie in the IMAX theater, it should be awesome. Sunday night I'm going to the drive-in with a buncha friends and we'll watch a couple movies then.

If I'm having a bad day, or feeling down, I like to go to the movies by myself. It helps me to forget about what was bringing me down for a couple opf hours or so.

As for the price. I don't mind it much. It's $7 to get in at night, but only $5.75 before 6:00 pm, so that's pretty good. I always take a snack with me and a bottle of water.

I have an adult daughter who enjoys films. On Mother's day, she picked me up, took me to breakfast, then we went to the theater and saw the movie "Crash." It was great. Not a dull moment in it & worth every penny. I love going to see good movies.
