I have some bad news. As some of you may know I have a blue point siamese that had her first litter of kittens two weeks ago today. There were four in the litter. Yesterday, I noticed that one of the kittens was losing weight and breathing very hard. I tried to isolate him with the mother to get him to nurse. We would not nurse. I then tried bottle feeding him, but he would not take the nipple. He kept getting worse. Finally about eight last night I took him to the emergency vet. The vet knew immediately that he had a congenital heart defect. She said that he would survive 24 hours at the most. She said that the most kind decision that we could make would be to put him to sleep. He could barely breathe. We decided to take the vets advice.
Did anyone here ever have the same problem with siamese kittens? The mother and the father are both examined each year, neither of them has any heart problems.

No advice, just to say how sorry I am. I hope the other three are OK and make it safely to adulthood.

Oh dear ... I am so sorry to hear of the loss of this little one! My heart goes out to you in this difficult time.

When kittens are born, their hearts (and other organs) are not 100% completely developed yet. Sometimes, it just happens that they cannot gain enough strength to overcome this and they will fade and die. It may not have anything to do at all with either parent or that the problem runs in the lines ... it just is nature being selective.

Again, I am sorry for your loss.
